 PURPOSE
This program is designed to establish and foster a long-term, mutually beneficial relationship
between AdFed West Michigan and The GVSU Student Ad Club. This is a formal “for credit”
internship program with defined hours and duties. The program consists of three concurrent
internship opportunities for three members of the GVSU Student Ad Club. Selection of students will
be made by the AAFWMI board, based on student applications, with counsel from the GVSU Student
Ad Club’s faculty advisor. DUTIES
Each internship will, in rotating segments, serve three AdFed committees: Programs: Membership,
and Communications, reporting to the committee chairperson. Proposed duties include: PROGRAMS
The programs committee plans and executes all AdFed events throughout the year. These events
are where the club brings most of its value for the membership, and therefore must be creative,
engaging, and useful. The Programs committee is especially engaged during the Addy Awards, one
of the largest local industry events of the year. Intern duties would include: ● Assisting the committee during planning, including identifying topics and speakers. ● Working with committee members to schedule venues and catering. ● Building schedules and working with the Communications committee to ensure collateral is
executed on time. ● Assisting with event set-up and tear-down.

The primary goals of the membership committee are to build and maintain the club’s roster. This
process includes prospecting for new members, encouraging continuing participation for existing
members and continually evaluating club performance through feedback from the local ad
community. Intern duties would include: ● Review current membership on a weekly basis, and make actionable recommendations to
build and maintain an engaged community. ● Manage online membership database, including updates.
● Identify potential members.
● Provide support for membership chair.
COMMUNICATIONS
The Communication committee is responsible for managing the club’s look, feel, and presence for
the community. Communication members design and execute all club collateral, from the website
to event promotional materials. Additionally, the Communication committee manages the club
social presence. Intern duties would include: Drafting email correspondence to support events, updates, and other board communication with
the members.
Managing social channels: drafting updates across multiple channels, identifying and responding to
important current events, and fostering an ongoing dialog between the club and its members.
Researching relevant industry news and related topics, and creating engaging content for the
membership.
Working with the membership committee to maintain and curate the club email database. — continued —

Attend AdFed board and committee meetings as student class and work schedules permit.
SCHEDULE AND HOURS
Each internship position is 19 hours per month, from September 1, 2015 through April 30, 2016. The
hours served will consist of scheduled events including board and committee meetings and events,
and time served at the discretion of the intern. Throughout the program, there will be additional
service opportunities above and beyond the internship program. These are optional and interns are
under no obligation to contribute hours beyond those defined by the program. COMPENSATION
As AAF West Michigan is a not-for-profit organization, therefore this is presently an unpaid
internship program. The issue of compensation will be evaluated annually; AAF West Michigan will
provide interns the following benefits: ● Opportunities to network with the West Michigan creative community
● Free admission to all AAF West Michigan programming
● Letters of recommendation from AdFed executives and program chairpersons
● Guidance and counsel from working professionals
● Speakers and support for GVSU Student Ad Club meetings
● Fundraising assistance for GVSU Student Ad Club

As AAF West Michigan has a longstanding partnership with the GVSU student Ad Club, only current
student members will be considered. Interested students will require a professor’s recommendation. Secure a referral from a member of
the Advertising faculty and include their contact information. Interested students must submit a short essay of 250 words or less, explaining why they should be
considered for an internship. SELECTION PROCESS The AAF West Michigan board or directors will review all submissions and award the internships to
