Industrial Coating Line – nProtect ® Metals Warehouse and Inventory Case Study AdMat Innovations Private Limited Plot Number D3, Next to Medley House, Road Number 16, MIDC, Andheri (E), Mumbai - 400093 W: www.admatinnovations.com O: +9122 4010 9922 M: +91 98334 21160 E: [email protected] Metals Warehouse and Inventory Key Objective One of the largest process equipment manufacturers in India was looking for a solution to concern of corrosion of metallic (especially carbon steel) plates in the inventory – significantly bringing down material handling costs during monsoons/ rains as well as alternative to using conventional market coatings, which break away in a short while and have to be reapplied – reading to labour-intensive, frequent inventory maintenance cycles Areas of Application Bare Carbon/ Mild Steel Plates and Inventory: Storage of these bare metallic plates is extremely difficult since they catch onto corrosion in very less time, leading to material loss over time (due to sandblasting needs before fabrication); in addition, house-keeping costs of keeping tonnes of inventory in a good condition is too high to focus on that aspect altogether Bare Carbon/ Mild Steel Plates and Inventory: Nanocoating was applied on bare carbon steel structure, after taking out existing rust scales by grinding/ sanding – and monitored in by keeping the plates in the open for over 6 months time Value Addition • Complete deterrence of further corrosion of the plates – despite being kept in the open for a very long period; testing in salt-saturated water, for cycles of over 400 hours, with temperature variations showed no impact on the nanocoated bare metallic inventory elements • Extremely high hardness and abrasion resistance of the coating ensure that the metallic plates do not have to be treated in any special way, and material handling costs go down • Easy-to-clean surface ensures house-keeping requirements to make the manufacturing unit look in top notch conditions goes down • Extremely long durability (over 5 years) of a single application of nanocoating ensures massive material loss control and elimination of frequent, labour-intensive recoat needs No Corrosion for 6+ Months on Bare Carbon Steel – Angles, Plates (1/2) As Is, Before Coating – Corroded, with Pitting Coated + 400 hours Accelerated Corrosion Cycle + 12 Weeks Environmental Exposure at Plant Coated + 400 hours Accelerated Corrosion Cycle Coated + 400 hours Accelerated Corrosion Cycle + 12 Weeks Environmental Exposure at Plant • Angle provided for testing in completely corroded, pitted condition • Post removal of rust, angle coated with nProtect ® • 400 hours of extreme, accelerated corrosion cycles – with salt spray and temperature variations – led to NO impact • Angle was moved to the plant – where it has kept exposed for more than 4+ months and NO impact at all (as against usual corrosion time of 4 weeks) No Corrosion for 6+ Months on Bare Carbon Steel – Angles, Plates (2/2) Plates As Is, Before Coating – Corroded, with Pitting Coated + Exposed to Environment for 4+ Months Corrosion Taken Out in no more than 20 minutes • Plate provided for coating at Plant facilities, rusted and pitted • Rust was removed by grinding – easy to remove, loose rust is taken out • Post removal of rust, plate coated with nProtect ® • Coated plate has been kept exposed to environment for more than 4 months now – NO impact of corrosion so far • Plate still looks as it is, without any cleaning, etc.
