Sheffield Children’s Hospital
Following the very challenging 27 mile, Three
Yorkshire Peaks walk, Cidon donated more
than £3000 to the children’s hospital charity,
along with a contribution of Toys R Us vouchers
just in time for Christmas. The first group to
finish completed the walk in a staggering 9
hours! Well done to all involved, and thank you
to everyone who supported through
sponsorship. The monies will be put towards
the specialist equipment not funded by the NHS
in the new hospital building.

New Head Office
Recognition and Awards
The design and approvals to build our proposed
new Head Office, within our existing yard at
Mason Way, are now complete, and tenders are
expected back by 27th March. Our Directors are
committed to seeing the work completed by
the end of November 2015 when we can look
forward to the fresh smell of paint. The
building
will
provide
substantial
accommodation over two floors including
dedicated training facilities for apprentices.
Although the building includes a structural steel
frame, we intend taking the opportunity to
display our many talents within a two storey
high, specially profiled insitu concrete reception
wall.
The entrance canopy will also be
supported on two concrete circular feature
columns.
Following a great evening at the Concrete
Awards dinner held at the Grosvenor Hotel in
London, Cidon were the proud winners of the
Certificate of Excellence award for the Glasgow
School of Art, Reid Building. The award,
presented by Janet Street Porter was proudly
received by Steve Simpson, Rob Smith and
Stevie Auton in October.

Dispenser this allows for easy transfer whilst
providing 100% protection against spills. The
use of the 1000l IBC has also proved to give an
economic advantage over smaller deliveries.

Accredited Formwork Apprenticeship
Following a considerable amount of discussion
and preparation, Cidon have partnered with
Sheffield College, to deliver a CITB accredited
block release apprenticeship in Formwork
Construction. The first block of training will
commence in April 2015 at Sheffield College,
and subsequent blocks will be delivered from
the yard in Barnsley over a two year training
scheme. Following an outstanding success rate
from our first intake in July 2014, Cidon are
working towards a second intake of trainees for
the scheme Summer 2015. The success of this
scheme has been a result of the continued
training and mentoring invested on site,
consequently raising up an eager and talented
pool of labour for the business. Well done to
Steve Auton, Jordan Bennett, Joe Marshall,
Oliver Snell, Joe Thompson and Peter Webb
who will be starting the apprenticeship in April.

Summary of the Good Initiatives
Curved lifting beam
Bespoke
lifting
beam, consisting of
a heavy section
universal beam, and
base plate widened
with the addition of a 500mm wide steel plate.
Lifting eyes have been welded to the underside
of the plate in order to mirror the radius of the
tanks wall reinforcement. This has allowed the
walls to be quickly prefabricated on a flatbed,
whilst forming it to the final shape of the wall
on lifting.
Step Ladders
When
previously
faced
with
the
problem
of
tightening the top
bolt on the higher
shutters, we adopted to using a stabilised step
ladder over the traditional ladder.
This
lightweight aluminium ladder provides a stable,
completely enclosed working platform, yet
proved to be flexible enough to be carried along
the working platforms.
