I Corinthians 13 is often
referred to as the love chapter. The context of this
chapter is that it follows
the Apostle Paul’s teaching on unity in the body of
Christ. Paul begins talking
about love by saying, “And
now I will show you the
most excellent way.” (I Cor.
12:31b) The Greek word
for love here is “agape”
which means unconditional
love. Verses 4 – 8 define
this God kind of love. It is
clear that the only way we
can love like this is by being
in a personal relationship
with God who is the source
of unconditional love.
So
Paul
concludes
with, “And now these
three remain: faith, hope
and love. But the greatest of these is love.” (I Cor.
13:13) The most ignored
of all Biblical doctrines is
the doctrine of unity in the
body of Christ. We are
commanded to be in unity.
Therefore, faith, hope and
love are three essential elements of unity.
The first element of unity
is faith. “And without faith
it is impossible to please
God…” (Heb. 11:6) Faith
is the key that unlocks the
door to a relationship with
God. Faith is the beginning of unity because it
is the beginning of living
(abiding) in Christ.
The second element of
unity is hope. Hope is more
than just wishful thinking. Hope is a reasonable
expectation. We have hope
because we have faith and
without faith there is no
hope. The reason for our
hope is Jesus.
The third and greatest
element of unity is love.
It is the greatest because
unconditional
love
is
required for people to be in
unity. If you love people as
God does, unity will be the
result. Where there is no
unity, there is no love. So
unity begins with faith, is
encouraged with hope and
thrives with love.

I’m writing a short note to let you all
know that I made it safely. This place
is unbelievable and I still wonder if
my eyes are playing tricks on me.
It’s true what they say, there is no
pain here! I know you weren’t
ready for me to leave, but when
He called, I knew I had to go. You
see my life had come full circle. I
know I left a void, but please try to
ll it with only good things. Don’t
dwell on the grief, pain and anger.
Remember that I am always watching
over you and can’t wait until He calls
you too. One day we will all be together
again. I love you all dearly.
So hard to believe that it has been
ten years since you left us so suddenly.
Sadly missed everyday by your family.
