UMW HAPPENINGS
NOTEWORTHY NEWS
Sports Management Minor
The minor is designed to give students the opportunity to complement a major program of study with a
concentration of courses in the industry. Students will be introduced to the basic principles of management,
marketing, law, finance, and ethics in sport. They’ll have an opportunity to apply the basic principles to practical
situations in the sport management industry: such as, facility and event planning, budgeting, and facility
operations for the professional, semi-professional and collegiate sports venues. Students completing this minor
will be equipped for graduate level inquiry and/or relevant careers in the sport manager industry.
University Center
The new University Center will open in fall 2015! Most prominent in the new building will be Dining Services.
Retail dining space is contracted to be filled by Qdoba and Jamba Juice. Student Government and other student
organizations will gain office and meeting space. It will also be the site of a new Career and Professional
Development Center supporting UMW students in internship and job-related functions.
