Guests are encouraged to discuss tackle selection with the Selwyn Lake Lodge managers in preparation for trophy fishing. Most people bring way too much tackle! You’ll probably end up using far less than you expect! Lake trout are predator fish and are highly aggressive on large flashy lures. We recommend the following tackle for lake trout fishing: Large soft plastic baits Large crankbaits (broken bodied, Rapala X-Rap, Rapala Tail Dancer) Large spoons – 3” to 6” – Daredevil, Five of Diamonds, Half Wave Jigs 1oz to 2oz Northern pike are a predator fish and will take large flashy lures similar to lake trout. We recommend the following tackle for northern pike: Basic spoons (Five of Diamonds, Daredevil) Large, soft plastic suspending baits (Storm Wild-eye Suspending Swim Shad) Shallow running crankbaits (Minus-1, Rattlin’ Rapala, X-Rap) Top water poppers, and prop baits Weedless spoons (Johnson Silver Minnow) and soft plastics (Bass Assassins) Spinning lures (size 4 or 5) in silver, gold, yellow or red Arctic grayling, we recommend the following tackle: Small spinners (size 1,0, and 00) Dry flies with a bobber Fly fishing is a great alternative for grayling but not necessary Travel Flights to Saskatoon Guests must make their own travel arrangements to Saskatoon.
