Suggested Tackle
All suggested tackle is available for sale at Selwyn Lake Lodge at a very reasonable price.
Guests are encouraged to discuss tackle selection with the Selwyn Lake Lodge managers in
preparation for trophy fishing. Most people bring way too much tackle! You’ll probably end up
using far less than you expect!
Lake trout are predator fish and are highly aggressive on large flashy lures. We recommend the
following tackle for lake trout fishing:
 Large soft plastic baits
 Large crankbaits (broken bodied, Rapala X-Rap, Rapala Tail Dancer)
 Large spoons – 3” to 6” – Daredevil, Five of Diamonds, Half Wave
 Jigs 1oz to 2oz
Northern pike are a predator fish and will take large flashy lures similar to lake trout. We
recommend the following tackle for northern pike:
 Basic spoons (Five of Diamonds, Daredevil)
 Large, soft plastic suspending baits (Storm Wild-eye Suspending Swim Shad)
 Shallow running crankbaits (Minus-1, Rattlin’ Rapala, X-Rap)
 Top water poppers, and prop baits
 Weedless spoons (Johnson Silver Minnow) and soft plastics (Bass Assassins)
 Spinning lures (size 4 or 5) in silver, gold, yellow or red
Arctic grayling, we recommend the following tackle:
 Small spinners (size 1,0, and 00)
 Dry flies with a bobber
 Fly fishing is a great alternative for grayling but not necessary

Gratuities
We are often asked for suggestions on appropriate gratuities for the staff at our lodge. We
recognize that tipping is a personal matter and we would hope that is reflects your satisfaction
with the performance of the people receiving the gratuities. A general guideline for gratuities is
provided below:
Lodge staff (this includes the chef, servers and dock-hand): $40 per fisherman for the lodge
staff’s effort preparing your trip, serving two lodge meals (breakfast on arrival and dinner on
departure) and shuttling your party to and from Caribou Crossing. This can be left with the
Lodge Manager to ensure the gratuities get distributed fairly between the staff members who
have worked hard to make your trip as good as possible.
