Mother’s Day Stall
FROM OUR PRINCIPAL
Dear Parents,
Harmony Day
We had a wonderful assembly on Monday to celebrate
Harmony Day. The students wore some beautiful national
costumes and we celebrated our school’s cultural
diversity. The dance performance by Emma
Thorneycroft’s Dance School was absolutely amazing.
International mindedness is a major part of the IB PYP
approach to education which totally fits into our
Harmony Day activities. We also promoted our ‘Chores
for Charity’ fundraising event for the orphanage we
support in Cambodia. This is the big weekend for the
students to help out around the house to raise funds for
Cambodia.
Westpac Helicopter Landing
We had such an exciting day last Monday when the
Westpac helicopter landed on our school oval. The pilot,
co-pilot and the rescue swimmer gave a wonderful
presentation to the students which was informative and
engaging. A huge thank you to Lisa Webber who
organised this brilliant event. Thanks Lisa we loved it!
Cross Country
We had fabulous weather last Wednesday and some very fit students who
participated enthusiastically in the Cross Country House Competition.
Congratulations to the Falcons who proved to be the fittest House on the day. Thank
you to Miss McDougall for her brilliant organisation. Thank you also to the parents who
came along to support the students. The top ten placings in each age group will
represent our school at the District Cross Country. Our Thursday Morning Running
Group certainly has increased the fitness levels of our students.
Year 5 Camp
The Year 5 students are off to Cave Hill Creek next week which is near
Beaufort. The camp is situated in a picturesque lake setting surrounded by the
mountains of the Mount Cole State Park. The students are really excited and
looking forward to experiencing the fantastic activities and having four sleep
overs in a row with their friends. Thank you to the Year 5 team for organising
the camp.
Congratulations Mr Cumming
Congratulations to Andrew Cumming and his wife Traleen on the safe arrival
of their beautiful baby boy, Kohen. May he bring you both much fun, laughter
and happiness.
Garden Update
With the rain then the warm weather then the rain again the garden has gone crazy. It is
amazing! The kitchen has had a huge selection of fresh vegetables to harvest for their cooking.
Seila and Graeme have been building the foundations for our soon to be completed pizza
oven. Watch this space for some photos soon. We are looking forward to cooking our own
pizzas in our wood fired pizza oven and sharing it with our community.
Hot Cross Buns
Thank you to all those families who placed Hot Cross Bun orders. These will be distributed to
families on Thursday 26th March.
Easter Raffle Tickets
Please return your money and raffle butts to the office by the end of the day
on Thursday 26th March. We will be drawing the raffle at a special assembly on
Friday 27th March in the gym at 9.00am.
Lizzy Lizard –sitter Required
If there is any family who would like to look after Lizzy our lovely, friendly blue-tongue lizard over
the holidays? If so please call in at the office and let Eunice or Annie know.
End of Term 1
Next Friday is the last day of Term 1. The students will be dismissed at
2.30pm. Please arrange for your child to be collected at 2.30pm or
arrange for them to attend After School Care. Have a safe and wonderful
Easter break.
School resumes for Term 2 on Monday 13th April.

YEAR 6 CANBERRA TOUR
Students from our school have recently undertaken, an educational tour of our national capital.
Students were given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a
focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage and democracy.
The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to
visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in
meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government is contributing funding of $30.00
per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs.
The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion. Read on for a
wonderful reflection from Mietta and Lauren.
Canber r a camp
All the Year 6 s got up at 6 o'clock just to get on the bus for camp, said our goodbyes and in a flash we
were at camp. Wahoo! "Got all my friends in my cabin! How much better can this get?!" At night time it
was always fun. We would laugh and talk for ages.
The second night we went to Telstra tower. It was awesome! we took a bunch of selfies it was great,
but cold too! ❄ ️
"Money up the stairs NO WAY! I never knew stairs could be so cool!" Anyway
we got to the top and found out heaps of facts about the currency of
Australia. Personally our favourite bit was the robots. The robots help lift all of
the coins and things like that because humans can't. How cool and they
DANCE ,that's my kind of robot! The royal mint is so fun!
After a long day it was disco night!!! Time to shake it off shake it off -Taylor Swift
We had a dance off.
We made a circle and people would dance in the middle. Mrs Kegen and Max.S sang
karaoke and for the people who didn't want to dance they had games outside! We all had
so much fun, we will never forget that night.

"WHAT DO U MEAN TONY ABBOTT ISNT HERE!" Yay we are at parliament. It's a let
down that Tony wasn't there, but it was great!! We got to have our own vote, dress up
and say our own speech, it was so fun. Plus they provided us with food, SCORE!
What are we going to do for...... SKIT NIGHT!!!!!!! I know, expectations vs. reality! Great idea
"AND NOW WE HAVE .... Cabin 12 " wahoo let's rock n roll!. In about 2 minutes we finished and the score
was..... 10 10 and a lot of 9s, this is just amazing! I will always love this night, smiling with my friends
enjoying everyone else's skit, oh how the camp was great
It came to that day were we had to go home a long drive ahead what joy

but on the good
side of things we will always treasure this camp in our hearts and never forget the fun we had especially
for our last year at primary school . How lucky are we?

INTER HOUSE CROSS COUNTRY CARNIVAL
The wetlands were a buzz of excitement on Wednesday morning as we held the annual InterHouse Cross Country Carnival. The students were getting pumped up and ready to run in the
ideal conditions from the energetic House chants and “Eye of the Tiger” soundtrack.
Each and every student is congratulated on their efforts in running the 2km and 3km courses as
each participant was awarded a point for their house in an attempt to take home the illustrious
shield. However, it was the Falcons house that dominated the top rankings finishing in first
place.
RESULTS:
1st Place: FALCONS
680 points
2nd Place: KESTRELS
430 points
3rd Place: KOOKABURRAS

QKR General Instructions
Aspendale Gardens Primary School has recently introduced the Qkr
(pronounced ‘quicker’) app to make your like easier. Qkr has been used
very successfully in schools with feedback from both parents and
administration staff being overwhelmingly positive. The app offers mobile
payment technology and aims to save parents time for school based accounts. Qkr is a
MasterCard initiative; it enables payment from most financial institutions and major credit cards
with safe and secure MasterCard technology.
The Qkr app lets parents use their smartphones to pay school contribution
payments. For those without access to a smart phone there will be a webbased version available.
Qkr is a free app. After registering your email address you will need to
select our school and follow the prompts.
The office will receive a generated report detailing your school payments.
Should you have any questions regarding the use of Qkr app, please
contact the office. We hope you enjoy this new flexibility in managing your
school payments.
BPAY is an electronic bill payment service accessed through your own financial
institution via telephone, or internet, from your cheque, savings, or credit card
accounts. You can find out more information about BPAY by visiting
www.bpay.com.au on the internet, or from your own financial institution.
It is imperative that you use your correct BPAY ID number and advise the school as to what you
have paid for by handing in paperwork to the office or emailing details so that payments can
be correctly matched to your family’s invoices. If you do not have a copy of your BPAY ID
please contact the office.
There is also the Direct Deposit Option - it is imperative that you note your surname
in the details and advise the school as to what you have paid for by handing in
paperwork to the office or emailing details so that payments can be correctly
matched to your family’s invoices.

TAKE A WALK IN
MY SHOES
Have a Heart for Cambodia Project 2015
Over the past 3 years we have raised $10 000 for ODA(‘Opportunities of Development
thru Art’) in Siem Reap and the Bong Paoun Project in the slums of Phnom Penh,
Cambodia through our School and the PROJECT CAMBODIA ART
AUCTIONS. These have been generously and professionally hosted by
the Isell Real Estate Group in Aspendale Gardens. Families at our
school were given the opportunity to bid for a selection of paintings
created by the children of ODA –‘Opportunities of Development thru
Art’ in Siem Reap Cambodia. Parents were so impressed by the
opportunity to develop their children’s international mindedness as
they became caring, compassionate and empathetic citizens. We
loved that the Aspendale Gardens School Community were given the
opportunity to really make a difference in our ever-changing world.
This year we want the whole school community to be actively involved in the raising of
funds. So we are presenting the life of a typical Cambodian child…those whose life is
spent searching through the rubbish dumps, selling souvenirs to tourists or at worst
working the streets…all for a mere $1 or less a day!
So, we are setting aside
Saturday 21st March as our
‘CHORES FOR CHARITY’ DAY
We are asking each of our students to ‘set to work’ for the day searching out all kinds of
jobs they can do particularly encouraging them to help others in the community who
need it but also seeking out extra jobs around the home for
mum and dad or other family members. We will be asking for
payment in the form of a donation for ‘services rendered’.
FUNDRAISING NEWS
Thank you to all those families who have already returned their raffle ticket butts
and money and also those who have returned their Hot Cross Bun orders.
We are purchasing our buns from Rustic Bakery & Café in Mordialloc. These will be
distributed to families on Thursday 26th March.
Our Easter raffle will be drawn at our Special Assembly being held on the last day of term
(Friday 27th March) at 9.00am in the gym. Extra raffle books are available from the office if you
can sell more than one book. All proceeds raised will go towards a roof for our second bike
shed.
