JOB TITLE Chief Executive Officer REPORTS TO Board of Directors RATE OF PAY DOE Full-time FLSA Exempt DEPARTMENT Ahtna Netiye’ LOCATION/SITE Anchorage SCHEDULE N/A HOURS N/A OPEN DATE 4/22/2015 CLOSE DATE 5/13/2015 A STATUS SUMMARY The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is responsible for providing strategic leadership for Ahtna, Incorporated $150M+ multiple subsidiary holding company Ahtna Netiye’. The CEO through collaboration and transformational leadership will work with the Ahtna Netiye’ Board of B Directors, Ahtna, Incorporated President and other senior leaders to establish and attain long-range goals, strategies, plans, growth and policies ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES – Including, but not limited to: Sets the strategic plan and vision for Ahtna Netiye’, and determines the role of each of its multiple subsidiaries in achieving the vision Works with the Board of Directors, Subsidiary Presidents, Ahtna, Incorporated President and Executive Management Team to set specific annual targets in key areas to develop a Balanced Scorecard for Ahtna Netiye’ and each of its subsidiaries Enhances and/or develops, implements and enforces policies and procedures of the organization by way of systems that will improve the overall operation and effectiveness of the Corporation Represents the Corporation to the public, to governments and other corporations Plans, develops, organizes, implements, directs, optimizes and evaluates the organization's fiscal function and performance Participates in the development of the Corporation's plans and programs Keeps the Ahtna, Incorporated President apprised of projects and initiatives of Ahtna Netiye’ Collaborates with the Board of Directors and Ahtna, Incorporated President to develop and implement plans for the operational infrastructure of systems, processes and personnel designed to accommodate the growth objectives of the company Evaluates and advises on the impact of long range planning, introduction of new programs/strategies and regulatory action Establish credibility throughout the organization and with the Board as an effective developer of solutions to business challenges C Responsible for the development and implementation of succession planning Provides mentoring as a cornerstone to the management career development program Fosters a success-oriented, accountable environment within the company Reports to the Board on a regular basis, informing them of trends and plans affecting the Corporation Presents proposed changes in major policy matters to the Board of Directors and Ahtna, Incorporated President Participates with the Board and standing committees as necessary in order to fulfill the board direction as well as any relevant standing committee’s charter and direction Works effectively in a highly regulated environment and understands the laws and regulations applicable to the Corporation Navigates the Corporation through a dynamic and politically volatile environment Promotes and sets the tone for ethics and safety Networks with equivalent personnel in other organizations/public office to facilitate diverse growth opportunities and resolve problems Performs other duties as assigned. Demonstrates strong influence-management, negotiation, leadership and assertiveness skills Quality Management - Provides depth of knowledge in lean organizational principles and quality management principles; six sigma, TQM, ISO 9000, or similar Shareholder Relations - Demonstrated ability to relate to Ahtna Shareholder needs and concerns. The individual must be able to understand and adapt to the requirements of public relations activities in rural Alaska Software & Reporting - The individual is highly experienced in advanced features of MS Word and Excel with working knowledge of the other software tools within the Microsoft Office Suite and has a demonstrated knowledge of computerized database applications Strategic Thinking - Understands organization's strengths and weaknesses; analyzes market and competition; identifies external threats and opportunities; adapts strategy to changing conditions; demonstrates ability to maintain strategic focus while working on the detail. Collaborating internally and externally while aligning plans and practices with Ahtna’s vision, mission, and values Travel - Ability to travel in / outside of Alaska QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Minimum Qualifications: A minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible supervisory and leadership experience in business and/or corporate environment that demonstrates ability to meet core competency requirements listed in the next section. Master’s Degree in Business Administration or related field o E Experience as an executive member of an organization may be substituted for the degree requirement on a 1:1 basis (six years of additional experience for total degree replacement, two years of additional experience if coupled with a Bachelor’s Degree). If experience is substituted for total degree replacement, a High School Diploma, or equivalent, is required Experience must include: o Senior executive level leadership for a complex organization with multiple companies, subsidiaries, and/or service lines. o Five (5) + years of the required experience must have been as an Executive or Officer working with a Board of Directors; and/or Member Management Committee; and o Federal contracting experience; and o For-profit organizational experience Experience and knowledge of Alaska Native cultures and ANCSA and related legislation Valid Driver’s License PREFERRED: President or CEO experience leading a $150M plus, multiple companies, subsidiaries, and/or service lines company Pursuant to PL 93-638, as amended, preference will be given to qualified Ahtna Native Corporation Shareholders, Descendants, and Spouses in all phases of employment. PHYSICAL DEMANDS PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Frequent sitting for prolonged periods of time, using hands/fingers requiring dexterity and coordination to handle files and single pieces of paper, reaching with hands and arms for items above and below desk level, talking, hearing, and seeing (up close, at a distance, along the periphery, with depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus); walking from place to place within the office with occasional use of stairs and no elevator available; bending, pushing, pulling, and standing for up to 2 hours; occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds such as small office equipment, files, stacks of paper, reference and other materials.
