2012 IBC Fire & Smoke Protection Features Seminar Friday, May 22, 2015 City of Southaven Fire & Police Training Complex 8325 Tulane Road, Southaven, MS 38671 2012 IBC Fire & Smoke Protection Features Description This seminar addresses the critical concepts of the 2012 International Building Code® (IBC®) regarding Chapter 7, Fire and Smoke Protection Features. These concepts provide a basis for the analysis and identification of which components require fire-resistance ratings; where the fire-resistance-rated construction is required in building construction; where smokeresistant construction is mandated; and the use of fire door assemblies, fire window assemblies, penetration firestop systems, fire dampers and smoke dampers. Objectives 1. Explain the scope of the fire-resistance-rated and smoke-resistant provisions in Chapter 7. 2. Describe the manner in which a fire-resistance rating is achieved. 3. Identify the individual building components that require a fire-resistance rating. 4. Indicate how to properly protect openings and penetrations in fire-resistance-rated assemblies.
