SUBJECT:
Rio 2016 Olympic Games Qualification System and Boxers’ Eligibility
Dear Presidents and Secretaries General,
As the 1st Olympic Qualification process via the WSB Season 5 Regular Season has just
been completed, we are now pleased to inform you of the following key decisions relating to
AIBA boxers’ eligibility for further Qualification Events as follows:





The names of the 17 WSB boxers who qualified for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games as of
April 28 have been communicated to each NOC. These boxers will also be allowed to
participate in their respective Continental Championships, Continental Multi-Sports
Games and further to the AIBA World Boxing Championships.
All 20 APB boxers who will qualify for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games in July – September
will also be allowed to participate at their respective Continental Championships,
Continental Multi-Sports Games and further to the AIBA World Boxing Championships.
In addition, National Federations will also be allowed to send other non-qualified boxers
in the same weight categories for their respective Continental Championships,
Continental Multi-Sports Games and further to the AIBA World Boxing Championships.
All these boxers will have to be confirmed by their National Olympic Committee no later
than December 4, after the AIBA World Boxing Championships, based on the policy
“Only one boxer will be qualified in each weight category per country”. AIBA will send a
letter to each NOC to request its final confirmation immediately after the AIBA World
Boxing Championships.
Last but not least, the boxers who have been confirmed by their NOCs by December 4
will NOT be able to participate in any other Olympic Qualification event to be held in
2016.
You will find below exact timelines for the entire Qualification System, this for your
reference.
Please contact the AIBA Sport department at [email protected] if you have any further
question on this matter.
Sincerely yours
Ho Kim
AIBA Executive Director
