No violation of rules
in pregnancy tests: BI
NEW DELHI, Nov 6
Boxing India today refuted
allegations that junior women
pugilists were subjected to
pregnancy tests ahead of the
upcoming
World
Championships, stating that
only the eligible senior girls
went through the tests as
required by the International
Boxing Association (AIBA).
Amid reports that girls
were subjected to these tests
in violation of rules, BI,
which is yet to get recognition from the Sports Ministry
and IOA, today stated that the
AIBA invitation for the
Championships, later this
month, clearly asks for a “non
pregnancy form issued by a
medical doctor” from all participating boxers. “...the
invitation clearly states that all
boxers must carry ‘non pregnancy form issued by a
medical doctor’ to Jeju for the
general weigh-in.
Indian team boxers,
through the team coaches and
the chief coach requested in
writing to Boxing India to facilitate in guiding them and
organising to get this test
done through Sports Author-
ity of India or any SAI doctor,” it said. “A few media
reports have published that
pregnancy tests were conducted on junior girls. We
would like to reinstate that
such reports are baseless,
misleading and are misrepresentation of the facts.
The minimum age requirement for the AIBA Women’s
World Boxing Championships Jeju 2014 is 19 years
and the youngest girl participating in this camp is 1994
born. “Since no junior girl
has been inducted in this
camp, the question of conducting pregnancy test on
junior girls doesn’t arise at
all,” it added.
BI President Sandeep
Jajodia insisted that the body
has stuck to rules in carrying
out the procedure.
“Boxing India in the best
interest of the boxers will always ensure that the
guidelines prescribed by
AIBA are followed by the
Indian contingent,” he said.
“Any violation in them could
lead to disqualification and it
is Boxing India’s responsibility to ensure the safety of all
our boxers. –– PTI
Kerala Blasters were 1-0
winners against FC Goa at the
Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in
Kochi, courtesy a goal from
Milagres Gonsalves in the 63rd
minute.
It was only a solitary
change for FC Goa as Robert
Pires returned from suspension to take his place in the
starting lineup with Andre
Santos missing out with a
knock. Both teams had half
chances to get ahead within
the first ten minutes. First it
was the home side with Ishfaq
Ahmed being played on, down
the right by a brilliant Stephen
Pearson through ball but he
failed to find CS Sabeeth in
the box with his cross straight
to Jan Seda in goal. Then on
the eighth minute, it was
Zico’s boys who missed with
Gregory Arnolin putting his
header just high after Bruno
Pinheiro swung in a freekick
from the left.
It was now time for the
Blasters to push forward and
they had twin chances both of
which involved Sabeeth. First
it was Stephen Pearson who
had a give and go with
Sabeeth outside the box before he surged in but smashed
his shot wide off the post.
Narayan Das did just enough
to put him off thankfully for
the away side.
Then in the 18th minute, it
was Sabeeth again who took
advantage of a drop in concentration from Das, getting
on the end of his clearance.
Das however made amends
when he recovered well to put
in a last ditch tackle to dispossess the striker who just had
the goalkeeper to beat.
Both teams lived up to their
reputation of being poor in
FC Pune City sign
Jermaine Pennant
MUMBAI, Nov 6: Indian
Super League (ISL) club FC
Pune City Thursday signed
former
Arsenal
and
Liverpool
footballer
Jermaine Pennant as a
replacement for injured
Colombian Omar Andres
Rodrigues Martinez.
Omar Rodrigues was
ruled out of the ISL inaugural season due to a
kidney complaint, according to an ISL release.
The 31 year old
Jermaine Pennant is a right

winger whose style of play
resembles that of Aaron Lennon and Theo Walcott. Like
these two more successful names, he uses his strength and
pace to launch runs down the right side, and he can use his
skills to beat full backs as well.
The man from Nottingham had joined English Premier
League giants Arsenal in 1999, at the age of 15 years, from
his first club Notts County and remained there until 2005. In
2006, he moved to Liverpool on a four-year contract, and
made over 50 appearances for them.
During his career he also played for other Premier League
sides like Stoke City, Birmingham City and Portsmouth,
and also played in Spain’s La Liga for Real Zaragoza. He
was last seen in competitive action earlier this year in the
colours of Stoke City. Though never capped as a full
England international, he played for the England under-21
team more than 20 times, and was considered as his nation’s future for a considerable time. –– Agencies
finishing chances as they failed
to craft any more decent opportunities till the dying
moments of the first half.
It was Trevor Morgan’s
men who took the lead about
five minutes after the hour
mark and it was the two substitutes who combined to great
effect. Pearson’s corner found
Penn Orji on the inside of the
box who instead of going for
goal, found new man Andrew
Barisic on the right. Barisic
slided in a delightful ball
across the face of the goal and
Milagres Gonsalves just had
to tap into the empty net with
the goalkeeper beaten.
The Blasters to climb
two spots to fifth in the
league table while Zico’s side
failed to build on their win
against Delhi Dynamos as
they remain rooted to the bottom of the table.

India beat Sri Lanka by
six wickets, lead series 2-0
AHMEDABAD, Nov 6
Ambati Rayudu slammed his
maiden hundred as India
produced
yet
another
comprehensive
batting
performance to beat Sri Lanka
by six wickets in the second
One Day International, here on
Thursday.
India now lead five-match
series 2-0. Batting first, Sri
Lanka scored 274 for eight in
stipulated 50 overs with skipper Angelo Mathews scoring
92. In reply, India never
looked in any sort of trouble
as they chased down the target with minimum fuss in
only 44.3 overs.
With Virat Kohli promot-
ing him at No 3, the 29-yearold Rayudu justified his
skipper’s faith scoring an
unbeaten 121 off 118 balls
with the help of 10 fours and
four sixes in an innings that
was paced perfectly.
He shared two fruitful
partnerships off 122 runs for
the second wicket with
Shikhar Dhawan (79) and
116 for the third wicket with
Kohli (49) as ‘Men In Blue’
again made the inexperienced
Sri Lankan bowling attack
look pedestrian.

match with an inside out
