May 2015 an Amelia Island Plantation Community Association Publication Amelia Island Plantation is for the birds! New signs to be installed at each of the Amelia Island Plantation Community Association’s three beach access points are part of the Community’s ongoing initiative to encourage beachgoers to share the beach with the many Florida shorebirds and seabirds that nest on the open beach. The signs, provided by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conserva- tion Commission (FWC) and approved by the Architectural Review Board, remind beach-goers to avoid going in nesting areas that are protected with signs and that disturbing nesting birds can prevent them from caring for their young, leaving them vulnerable to the hot sun and to predators.
