Bulletin 3 May 2015 - All Hallows, Five Dock

Celebrating FAITH, LIFE and LOVE in COMMUNITY.
3rd May 2015 - Year B
FIFTH SUNDAY of EASTER
ALL HALLOWS’
Dear Parishioners,
PARISH CHURCH
1. Be Fruitful and Multiply
The first command God gave to human beings was
“be fruitful and multiply” (Gen.1:28). In the Gospel
Reading, there is a kind of reiteration of this
command. At any rate, the text describes the bad
things that happen to people who are not fruitful.

In Genesis, the fruitfulness has to do with reproduction. It comes
from union between a man and a woman, and it multiplies God’s
image in the production of children.
The fruitfulness at issue in the Gospel comes from connection too,
but connection with Christ. It comes when Christ is in you, and you
are in him.
This reciprocal being-in is a funny state of affairs, isn’t it? You can
put a bowl in a box, or you can put a box in a bowl. But the box can’t
be in the bowl when the bowl in in the box!
All Hallows’ Parish School Boxes and bowls can’t manage reciprocal being-in. But persons can,
because of love. Love unites you and your beloved without either

one of you losing your identity. The union of love is not a fusing; it is

a mutual indwelling.

All Welcome.
Reconciliation: Saturday

Anointing: First Friday of the
month at 9am mass. (except January).
In the Gospel Reading, Christ says that he always remains in his
own. So if you yield to Christ in love, you have what is needed for the
mutual indwelling of love. You are your beloved’s, and he is yours.
(Song of Songs 6:3) There is joy in this love, because Christ is so
much with you that he is in you. There is peace, too, because there
is rest for the heart in having your beloved with you.
Your sins and the storms of life retain their power to afflict you. But
you can more easily put up with things, even your own troublesome
self, if your beloved is yours and your are his.
In that mutual indwelling, then, there is love, joy, peace, patience and
longsuffering. But these very things are fruits of the Holy Spirit. When
they grow in you, you are bearing fruit.
Finally, consider: is there a more powerful witness than a life lived in
love, joy, peace, patience and long-suffering? If you have the fruits of
the Holy Spirit in you, you will multiply God’s image in others too.
And so, by remaining in Christ, you are doing what will make you be
fruitful and multiply.
Sick Calls: Any time - day/night.
Funeral Masses: In co-operation
with Funeral Directors.
Exposition: Third Thursday of
every month after Mass.
3. First Communion Parent Meeting
On Tuesday 5th May at 7.00pm we ask parents of children preparing for
First Holy Communion to meet in the Church. Children need not attend
but we would like one parent to attend to receive all information in
regards to the sacrament and organise the home meeting groups.
3. Charitable Works Fund (CWF) Appeal.
This weekend is the CWF appeal which
continues to play an important role in providing
social, pastoral, advocacy and training programs
through its 6 agencies. The CWF is your
Catholic charity and we encourage you to give it
your generous support. Couples, families,
refugees, migrants, our future priests, Catholic
public school children, the deaf and hearing
impaired are just some of the people you are
helping by supporting the CWF. There is so
much which can be done with your donations,
so please give generously.

SHHHH...
We don't like to talk about these things yet they occur in
every parish community, even at All Hallows. If reading this
in church the person beside, in front or behind you could be
affected. Perhaps it's your neighbour, friend or a relative. It
could be man or woman, rich or poor, highly educated or
barely able to read and write. When you discover what it is,
you'll probably read no further. Why? You may think I am
not affected by this, I'm not interested in such matters, or
what does it have to do with me? What is this secret that in
the main is kept hidden? Family and Domestic Violence.
Each week a woman was murdered at the hands of a partner
or relative and families were destroyed last year. So far 30
women have been murdered this year due to family violence.
People usually equate domestic and family violence as
physical abuse however only a small part of such violence is
physical. In fact coercive, controlling behaviour, unequal
power in a relationship is abuse. Emotional control
(relentlessly putting someone down)is abuse. Constant
verbal (yelling, name calling) is abuse. Financial control is
abuse. Being forced into social isolation is abuse.(i.e. not
allowed to have friends, see family, leave the house.)
We have a responsibility to make social justice endemic in
everything we do. Pope Francis wants us to go from maintenance to mission. This means to stop being complacent and
maintain the status quo when we learn that something is
happening. Instead we are to make social justice our mission.
This does not mean talk to the perpetrator of the crime and
try and get them to change. This doesn't work. Or if a victim
discloses information to you don't tell them, "Oh it can't be
all that bad..." or the usual "Why don't you leave? " They
need professional help. It takes seven attempts at leaving
before a victim leaves for good. Also if in a situation yourself the abuse will only get worse no matter how many times
your partner promises to change.
Don't turn a blind eye. Social justice is our responsibility.
