MESSAGE FROM THE COMMANDER
Howdy Legionnaires. I hope everyone is well. We have had a busy March and April. March 14th we had our auction, fundraiser on the 28th, 2604 cleanup, the 29th our flag disposal. District Commander Billy Winters helped
us with it and done a good job. April 3rd we dyed Easter eggs and had our hunt on the 4th. I would like to thank
everyone who helped out and a special thanks to Fred & Reba Arellano for the train ride and Emily the Easter bunny.
I also thank the folks who helped out with the dinners for our deceased members.
May the 13th will be our Election of Officers. The 16th of May will be Karaoke. The 25th of May we will be visiting
the local nursing homes. The Installation of Officers will be June 13th at 5:00pm - followed by a meal.

S.A.L. HAPPENINGS
Hello Squadron 522,
Well can’t believe this year is coming to an end. But fellow members it has been a good year.
On March 21st we had road clean up day. We could have used more help but the job got done. Thanks to all who
helped.
March 29th we held a Flag Retirement ceremony. The 6th District Legion Commander Billy Winters & 6th District
Commander Ken Peters, Jr attended and helped with the ceremony. I give them a special thanks and to all my
Officers that helped thank you. There were many flags and all were retired with honor.
Elections are coming up May 13th. Anyone who wants to run for an office please contact one of the nominating
committee :Clarence Britton, Kenneth Walker or Garry Vessels. I want everyone to know this will be my last year as
your S.A.L. Commander. I need to step down and let someone else step in. It’s been one heck of a ride.
Thanks everyone.
We’re planning a horseshoe tournament September 19, 2015. More info as it gets closer.
Doesn’t look like we are going to make our membership goal this year.
If you don’t have proof of whom you are joining under we cannot grant you membership - that’s everybody!
If you haven’t paid your 2015 dues you are delinquent and have no club room privileges - No Exceptions.

Hi, This is about to wind down March & April & then Dept.
Jr Meeting 2nd May at 1:00pm at Lake Whitney Library. Jrs save some newspapers. Also we’re
going to decide if you can be at the installation of officers in June at the post so you can be pinned. We’re also going
to try to work up a short flag presentation or something related to it.
We’ll be electing officers at the General Membership Meeting in May. Also, May is Luau Month - dress in your
Hawaiian attire the 16th of May for Karaoke. Also the Aux. is selling chances on a Spirits Tub (aka booze bucket,
booze basket, etc). This is the only large fundraiser we’re having this year. Come and participate. Buy your chance
to win $1 ea. or 6 for $5.

The Commander already thanked you for your help with the dinners
for our deceased sisters and the fellow comrades of the Legion who have
gone to gather with loved ones and friends and fellow comrades and sisters. God bless them.
On Memorial Day we will be distributing poppies at Brookshire’s and
going to the nursing homes with them.
Auxiliary has Yellow Ribbons for our troops and putting them on the
clubroom tree. They are a dollar or 6 for 5.
I’m not for sure when the next Jr meeting will be. The first of June it
will come out in the Lakelander and Facebook.
On June 13, Officer Installation at 5:00pm followed by a meal.

The 2015 6th District Convention is being held in Alvarado
this year. Join us in helping Post 522 make a good showing by
attending in force. We hope to see you there!
May 13 Officer Elections
It’s that time of year. The election of new Legion & S.A.L.
officers will be on Wednesday, May 13 at 7:00pm. Auxiliary
elections will be held the following Wednesday, May 20th.
Come out and vote.

The ladies of the Auxiliary will be distributing
poppies outside of Brookshire’s in Whitney. Stop
by to learn about the significance of the poppy
and to have a memorial poppy pinned on you.
We’ll also be visiting veterans at the local
nursing homes to present them with poppies and to let them
know that we haven’t forgotten.

Junior Membership is open to American Legion members’
granddaughters, daughters, sisters, and nieces - ages 18 & younger.
ALA JUNIOR ACTIVITIES PROGRAM
The ALA Junior Activities Program is designed to teach young girls the skills necessary in
becoming future leaders and/or active members of the ALA and of their community.
Make new friends. Learn new skills. Get involved in the community.
Earn volunteer credits. Apply for college scholarships.
