ITINERARY IN BRIEF TOUR HIGHLIGHTS Days 1-3: June 25-27, 2016 Depart U.S./Reykjavik/Borgarnes/ Snaefellsnes Peninsula Upon arrival in the Icelandic capital of Reykjavik, enjoy a scenic drive to our hotel in Borgarnes. Explore the thermal areas of Deildartunguhver and the Hraunfossar Falls. Visit the Reyholt Cultural Centre, a historic site based on the life and residence of saga writer Snorri Sturluson. Tour the Snaefellsnes peninsula. Walk along a shell sand beach, and explore caves with thousands of nesting cliff birds. Days 4-6: June 28-30, 2016 Akureyri/Lake Myvatn/ Jökulsárgljúfur National Park Travel to the fjords of Akureyri, Iceland’s northern capital. Stop and enjoy scenic views at the Grasbrok Crater. Visit a Gauksmyri farm featuring famed Icelandic horses. Discover Lake Myvatn and its environs of bubbling mud flats, lava fields, and volcanic craters and Godafoss the “waterfall of the gods.” Visit “Glacial River Canyon” National Park and see Dettifoss, Europe’s most powerful waterfall. Embark on a bird-watching cruise to Puffin Island to see the thousands of seabirds here. Days 7-8: June 31-July 1, 2016 Reykjavik/Hella/Vik Transfer to the airport for a short flight to Reykjavik and then drive to Thingvellir National Park, a place of great historic and geologic significance. Stay in beautiful Hella, an agricultural area and the main regional center in South Iceland. Tour the country museum in Skogar, followed by a brief walk to the nearby Skogafoss, one of Iceland’s most popular waterfalls, and visit the southernmost village of Vik. Days 9-10: July 2-3, 2016 Reykjavik Return to Reykjavik via “saga” country, the setting of Iceland’s cherished literary tradition. Enjoy lunch in the Icelandic capital at a local restaurant then embark on a city tour. Enjoy time on one’s own to explore the city or join in an optional visit to the Blue Lagoon for a soothing bath in the geothermal waters. Celebrate this adventure over a farewell dinner.
