1 Overview
In the recent years, the role of Medical Education has become pivotal in the medical colleges of
Pakistan. The Department of Medical Education (DME) at Avicenna Medical College has taken
the initiative to conduct a series of workshops as a part of the Faculty Development Program and
Continuous Medical Education and Continuous Dental Education (CME/CDE) activities for the
Faculty as well as any other Doctors, Dentists and Specialists interested in the CME activities.
Research is important not only for improving the knowledge and patient care but it is also a
requirement by all the post-graduate training bodies. Research is a component of the
undergraduate medical and dental curriculum. We want to introduce the basic training of
research skill through a two days duration workshop for the faculty members, post-graduate
trainees and doctors serving in the community.
The DME Avicenna would conduct workshops every month starting from April 2015; each
workshop would be of two days duration. There shall be five DME workshops in the year 2015.
Objective:
The workshop shall cover the following elements.
1- Understanding the key definitions of research fundamentals
2- Formulating research question according to study design including statistical analysis.
3- How to critically appraise the papers and their clinical implications
4- Connecting research with the professional development and patient’s managements
5- Awareness of research ethics and plagiarism.
Target Audience:
These workshops will be for the faculty members of Avicenna Medical College, Faculty
members of other institutions, Post-graduate trainees and Doctors as well as the Specialists
serving for the community.
