Julia Strimel, Secretary Dick Longcoy and Shop manager Joe Alles.

TREASURERS REPORT:
February Ending Balance: $ 3487.99 (Specific breakdown not presented due to just
acquiring the account by the new treasurer).
SHOP MANAGER REPORT by Joe Alles:
1) LOCKER STUDY – Results in there being 2 full lockers and 4 half lockers available.
2) TOOL RACKS – Place tools in their place. There is now a cabinet by the drill presses
and other “extra” specialized holders – USE THEM!!
3) CHOP SAW – Was returned with the required repairs done at what seems like a
reasonable fee.
4) SAFETY ISSUES – Flammable items MUST BE stored in the cabinet in the paint
room. Shop Rules and Regulations spell out the storage requirements. ALSO, there
are safety glasses as well as masks placed around the shop – USE THEM!
5) PAINT STORAGE UNIT - Will be cleaned out and partial or old labeled cans not
marked by an individual as personal will be segregated and disposed of. Reminder –
do a thorough cleaning of the lid rim trough prior to putting on the lid. About half have
excessive paint/stain in the channel.
6) ZERO CLEARANCE SLED – We have obtained a fixture that will allow table saw cuts
that would normally slide down between the blade and the blade slot. (great value @
$143.00 for $200.00 unit). REMINDER – this fixture is “precision”. You must make
sure that the blade is EXACTLY 90 degree vertical or the blade will cut away the
fixture edge and allow your thin cut material to drop down through the slot and the
fixture will no longer be of use to anyone.
GENERAL DISCUSSIONS:
SHOP PURCHASES – The by-laws give the Shop Manager the ability to purchase at their
discretion for routine items and small tool replacements. Motion for large items (over $250)
should be presented to the membership prior to implementation was passed. The exception
being for mandatory equipment repair where the upfront price may not be available.
TOOL TYPES – For the lathe work carbide tip vs. “modern” steel. Motion to buy a carbide
set failed to pass.
OLD ROUTER TABLE – No longer needed and should be sold. Valued at about $300 new,
$125 would be a fair price. No response.
RESIDENT COMPENSATION FOR WORK PERFORMED – A plan that requires relatively
“fair” donations for work being done via a Work Acceptance Procedure is to be looked into.
One prior job with many man hours brought us a whole $10. What an insult to the worker
even though our woodshop work is by “donation” of one’s spare time.
COATINGS: A discussion was held after Ed Bates presented information regarding disposal
of primarily solvent product containers. The subject of stain types ended with the water
based varieties being the only ones acceptable in our shop. Since oil based “paints” are no
longer sold for general usage, this sets up the entire family of coatings we use to be non-oil.
RAC BULLETIN BOARDS: If we make them, maintenance will mount them in the elevators.
MEETING DATES: This meeting as a “quarterly” brought up a lot of items, took too long and
proved that our 10 meetings a year was the better plan after all. Wendell made the motion
that was passed that we return to the 2nd Monday, every month except July and August
schedule.
Meeting adjourned at 2:07p.m..
Respectfully submitted,
Dick Longcoy
