Our week was jam packed with exciting contests, games, and educational learning experiences. We began with two contests. First, the elementary began working on the “Celebrate Your Earth” decorating contest. Classrooms were decorated with recycled n Week materials and Page 2 …Lost & Found, District Music Results showed their Page 3…Shots Page 4…Summer Food enthusiasm Service Program Page 5…Bus Route Surve y for keeping Page 6-10…Pre-participa tion Sports Physical our Earth Page 11…Athletic Banqu et clean. We learned how trees planting the 50 red maple provide oxygen for breathing seedlings we received from the and give support to hillsides Arbor Day Foundation. Each preventing erosion. MAY NEWSLETTER On Wednesday, April 22 we celebrated Earth Day with Miss Anita Olson from Keep Loup Basin Beautiful. Miss Olson shared recycling tips with our elementary and ended each session with a fun game of “Trash Sorting Relay.” The students teamed up to sort through a bag of trash and recycle items in the proper bins. They also learned what we can recycle and what is trash. On Thursday we wrapped up our Green Week with our Green Fair. This was a flurry of excitement for all grades. We offered green crafts such as garden marker rock painting, making bookmarks from old cereal boxes, creating air freshener from organic oils and water, making bird seed hangers out of toilet paper rolls, peanut butter, and birdseed, and planting dill to take home. We also were treated to some green snacks. We had scrumptious green grape skewers and green smoothies which showed the students that kale can in fact be yummy if you mix it with bananas and apples. Our final weigh in of recycling material was also done at this time. Last year as a whole school we recycled 500 pound of recycling. This year our elementary students collected and recycled 1070 pounds of recycling materials and filled our entire dumpster up. WAY TO GO! In just over one week our small school recycled a dumpster of waste. Just think of the results if the entire community joined in! (idea for next year maybe?) The winners of the individual classroom decorations were 3rd grade recycling 394 pounds of materials and the 1st grade winning the “Celebrate Your Earth” recycling contest. I had an absolutely amazing week and was so proud of our students. A big thank you to the many teachers, staff, students, and community members who dedicated time or supplies for the fair. -Mrs. Smith The$lost$and$found$pile$at$Ansley$School$is$enormous!$$All$lost$and$ found$items$are$being$displayed$in$the$teacher$workroom$across$ from$the$office.$$Be$sure$to$check$out$this$room$weekly$for$anything$ belonging$to$you$or$your$family.$$Any$items$ left$after$Friday,$May$22nd$will$be$donated$to$ Goodwill.$ $ $ $ 2015 District Music Contest Results Mixed Chorus Women’s Chorus Matt Marsh, vocal solo Hannah Lewis, vocal solo Kami Nelson, vocal solo 2 1 1 1 2 Courtney Bailey, tenor sax solo Ashley Bundy, alto sax solo Marissa Campbell, Clute solo Hannah Lewis, Clute solo Matt Reed, horn solo 1 2 1 2 1 End of Year Concert Dates and Times May 4, 2015 7:00 p.m. May 12, 2015 7:00 p.m. May 19, 2015 7:00 p.m. 7-‐12 Spring Concert Prek-‐6 Spring Concert, Preschool Graduation 7-‐8 Awards Night, Concert, 8th Grade Graduation 345 696 750?4Q^QU_E[a^@UOWQ` A_QU`R[^2[[PMZP2aZcU`T2^UQZP_`TU_?aYYQ^ 0-E?& Monday - Friday @591?& 12:00 - 1:00 p.m. <8-/1& Ansley Public Schools Cafeteria Lunches will begin on May 26, 2015 /;:@-/@& Ansley Public School Office 308-935-1121 SUMMER FOOD SERVICE PROGRAM The United States Department of Agriculture is an equal opportunity provider and employer ANSLEY PUBLIC SCHOOLS 1124 Cameron Street P.O. Prizes Awarded Call 308-212-0302 to register $5 entry fee The 7th-11th grade students recently participated in this year’s egg-drop project. The students had to make a landing pad that would protect an egg dropped from the science room ceiling without any cracks. The thinner the landing pad was, the higher the grade for the project!! In order to get an A, students had to come up with a project less than 1” thick. This year we saw a number of successful projects made from a variety of things, such as rice (cooked), bread, peanut butter, Little Debbie Snacks, corn starch, towels, jelly, etc. In addition to a grade, the thinnest projects in each class received various prizes for their efforts!! -Mr. Brummer 20152015 FFA Achievements o Top Range Judger ♣ Seth Racicky, Marissa Campbell, and James Mills o State Dairy Judging ♣ Seth, Blake, Mikey and Trent Finished 3rd in the State. o Top Livestock Judger ♣ Marissa Campbell: 13th Place Individually at Dist., ♣ Bo, Tori, Hanna and Marissa placed 4th at Districts., ♣ Mable 13th at District, ♣ Mable, Seth, Mariah, and Paige 2nd Place ♣ JH – Zeke, Tren, Falan, and Justin placed 7th. ♣ Broken Bow Champs – Seth, Mikey, Makin, and Jesse, ♣ JH Grand Champ – Tren Danker o State ♣ ♣ ♣ Livestock Judging Bo, Hanna, Tori, and Jesse finished 24th Tori placed 18th individually Mable, Mariah, Paige, and Seth finished 4th place as team in the state ♣ Paige placed 13th individually at state o Top 4 Fruit Sales ♣ Mariah Lane, Seth & Blake Racicky. o Workhorse Award ♣ 7th Grade: Laney, & 8th Grade: Zeke o Tag Team Champions Belts ♣ Seth and Grady o State ♣ ♣ ♣ ♣ ♣ ♣ ♣ ♣ Degree Recipients: Chase Corbin Adam Hogg Hanna Lane Kami Nelson Shaun Johnson Tori Ryan Bo Slingsby Tyler Varney ◄ Apr 2015 3 10 17 Sun 4 Mon Kindness Club-Make Township Library Tree Craft Pudding 11 SPARTAN VIP CLUB CALENDAR ~ May 2015 ~ Fri 8 Thu Elementary Track Meet Wed 7 Tue 1 Mother’s Day Craft Make & Deliver May Baskets 6 20 14 22 29 HAVE A GREAT WE HOPE TO SEE SUMMER VACATION!
