Celebrating
ASIAN PACIFIC AMERICAN HERITAGE MONTH
Message from our President and CEO:
It’s coming, Asian Pacific American Heritage Month! As part of the celebration, the Asian Pacific American Institute for
Congressional Studies will be celebrating its 21st year with our Annual Gala Awards Dinner and Leadership Academy for
Elected Officials on May – 14 and 15, 2015. These anchor events in Washington, D.C. are part of the celebratory week
of events that will draw the largest gathering of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in our Nation’s Capital. We hope
that your organization will join us in the celebration by supporting the political empowerment of the AAPI community.
Founded by former Secretary Norman Y. Mineta in 1994, APAICS is a 50l(c)(3) nonprofit, non-partisan, educational organization dedicated
to promoting AAPI participation and representation at all levels of the political process, from community service to elected office. APAICS
programs focus on leadership development and filling the political pipeline for AAPIs to pursue public office at the local, state and federal levels.
Nearly 1000 people attended last year’s Gala Awards Dinner, which was keynoted by actor George Takei. Past keynotes
and honorees have included luminaries including President Barack Obama, Vice President Joe Biden, former Secretary
Gary Locke, President Bill Clinton, the late Senator Daniel K. Inouye, Senator Daniel K. Akaka, Congressman Mike Honda,
and current CAPAC Chair Congresswoman Judy Chu. In celebration of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, the
2014 Gala will be the “must attend” event of the year and our awardees and speakers will exemplify the best that our
community and nation has to offer. Please join us in celebrating the political empowerment of the AAPI community.
In addition to our Awards Dinner, APAICS will host its Annual two day National Leadership Academy, on May 14th and 15th, 2015
which consists of two days of training for state and local elected officials, as well as for prospective political leaders in the community.
Other community events the week of May 11, 2015 include National Council of Asian Pacific Americans
(NCAPA) Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander 2015 Policy Summit and Congressional Asian
Pacific American Caucus’ Asian Pacific American Heritage Month Ceremony. Also that week, we will be having
our second Military Leadership Luncheon on May 13, 2015 which was launched last year and a huge success.
This booklet provides information about sponsorship levels. There is also flexibility to build a sponsorship package that works for
your organization. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Helen Ruggiero on my development team
at [email protected]. We count on your generosity to build our future leaders, and we look forward to hearing from you soon.
Sincerely,
S. Floyd Mori
President and CEO

“I am living proof of how APAICS has helped to open the
doors of possibilities and made them a reality. Since my
selection as the first Anheuser-Busch/Frank Horton Fellow
in 1997, I have worked in U.S. Senator Daniel Inouye’s office,
graduated from law school, and been elected at age 28
to the State House of Representatives in Hawaii.
Just as APAICS has provided me with the encouragement and
support, I hope that what I’ve accomplished ignites the same
spark for other APIAs, especially among the younger generation,
to run for office or participate in public service.”
“APAICS is a vital component of our community’s efforts to play
a role in determining the future political and social landscape
of the United States. By bringing together Asian Pacific Islander
American community leaders from across the country and the
political spectrum, APAICS serves as a forum for energizing
our community around the goal that all of us share: building a
full and equal presence for Asian Pacific Islander Americans
in the public life of this Nation.”
Hon. Norman Y. Mineta
Former U.S. Secretary of Commerce and Transportation
Co-founder and former Chair of APAICS
Rep. Scott Nishimoto
Hawai’i State House of Representatives
1997 Anheuser-Busch/Frank Horton Fellow
“APAICS is the premier “go to” national organization for leadership
and pipeline development for the API community. I am proud of
the work that APAICS has accomplished and honored to be part
of an organization that continues to foster civil engagement in
one of the fastest growing communities in the country.”
Evan Low
“APAICS has served individuals of Asian and Pacific Islander descent
and has encouraged AAP is to engage in the political process as
students, community leaders, and elected officials. As the first
Chinese-American woman elected to Congress, I fully recognize
the importance of building a strong AAPI community within the
political arena, and APAICS is at the forefront of that pursuit.”
