Cutting Instructions for the Pieced Quilt
Pink Version
Please note: all strips, except for the pink motif stripe, are cut
across the width of the fabric from selvage edge to selvage edge.
From the pink owls print, cut:
(6) 6" strips for the middle border.
From the pink tonal, cut:
(9) 2½" strips. Set aside (5) strips for the inner border and (4)
strips for the sashing.
From the yellow tonal, cut:
(3) 1⅝" strips. Recut into (8) 1⅝" x 6⅛" and (8) 1⅝" x 3⅞"
pieces and (4) 1⅝" x 1⅝" squares.
From the green tonal, cut:
(7) 2¼" strips for the binding.

Sewing Instructions for the Pieced Quilt
All seams are sewn using 1/4" seam allowance with
pieces held right sides together and raw edges even.
Block A (Make 6):
1. Using the quilts pictured on
the cover as a guide, stitch 1⅝"
colored squares to opposite sides
of a 1⅝" dot print square. Sew
1⅝" x 3⅞" colored pieces to the top and bottom of this unit to
complete the block center.
2. Stitch 1⅝" x 3⅞" dot

sides of the block

1. Sew 1⅝" x 6⅛" dot
print pieces to the top and bottom of the block center.
3. Stitch 1⅝" x 6⅛" colored pieces to the left and right sides of

top and bottom to complete (1) block measuring 8⅜", from raw
edge to raw edge, in both directions.
4. Repeat steps 1-3 to make a total of (6) Block A.
Block B (Make 4):

from raw edge to raw edge, in both directions.
8. Repeat steps 5-7 to make a total of (4) Block B.
9. Stitch together, side by side, (3) Block A and (2) Block B,
alternating the two types of blocks, to make (1) block row.
Repeat to make a second identical block row.
10. Trim (4) 2½" tonal sashing strips and (3) 10⅝" motif stripe
strips to 39⅞" (if your measurements are different, cut to fit the
length of your block rows). Stitch a trimmed tonal sashing strip to
the top and bottom of each block row. Sew the block row units
and the trimmed motif stripe strips together, alternating the two
types of units, to complete the quilt center.
11. Trim the selvages from the (6) 2½" inner border strips.
Sew the strips together, end to end, to make a long 2½" strip.
From this long strip, cut (2) 54⅝" and (2) 43⅞" lengths (if your
measurements are different, cut to fit your quilt top). Stitch the
longer lengths to the left and right sides of the quilt top. Sew the
shorter lengths to the top and bottom.
12. Trim the selvages from the 6" owls print middle border
strips. Stitch the strips together, end to end, to make a long 6"
strip. From this long strip, cut (2) 58⅝" and (2) 54⅞" lengths (if
your measurements are different, cut to fit your quilt top). Stitch the
longer lengths to the left and right sides of the quilt top. Sew the
shorter lengths to the top and bottom.
13. Trim the selvages from the 3½" leaves print outer border
strips. Sew the strips together, end to end, to make a long 3½"
strip. From this long strip, cut (2) 69⅝" and (2) 60⅞" lengths (if
your measurements are different, cut to fit your quilt top). Stitch the
longer lengths to the left and right sides of the quilt top. Sew the
shorter lengths to the top and bottom.
14. Layer the completed quilt top with batting and backing and
quilt as desired. Trim the batting and backing even with the
outer edges of the quilt top. Bind the finished quilt using the
2¼" blue diamonds or green tonal strips.
