Preparation and maintenance of slate
For a new floor or walls covered with slate we recommend the application of a sealer. The sealer will
reduce or eliminate this porosity of the stone. Thus the surface of slate will be resistant to stains and
easy maintenance. Different sealers are on the market, a great distinction for the slate; there are sealers
which enhance the color and keep a wet look to the slate, others that do not change its color.
There are in the trade of many products to maintain tiles, shine, etc... But there is also an old system
that is proven and is great, let's recognize it. This is the black SOAP. It is not abrasive, is quite what it
takes to the slate slabs. You will dissolve the SOAP in a little hot water and then you will pour cold water.
2 Tablespoons black SOAP is sufficient for five litres of water.
The maintenance of the slate
