Club
Meets at 7.30pm on the fourth Monday of each month at
the Ashburnham Church Hall.
Formed in 2008, the club welcomes members with any
level of gardening experience – or none at all! – and
enjoys regular talks and demonstrations, with occasional
outings.

age groups: ages 8 and under, and ages 9 - 16.

Recipe to be used for Class 46
Iced Apricot Fruit Loaf
3oz/75g glace cherries chopped
3 size 2 (large) eggs
6 oz/175g self raising flour
4oz/100g soft margarine
4oz/100g light soft brown sugar
4oz/100g ready-to-eat dried apricots chopped
50z/150g dried cranberries
Icing
40z/100g icing sugar sifted
1 tablespoon apricot jam
1 tablespoon water
2 chopped ready-to-eat apricots
Mix all ingredients together in a large bowl. Place in a 2lb loaf tin greased and base lined. Bake in oven
(160°C or gas 3) for about 70 minutes. Leave in the tin for about 10 minutes, then turn out and allow
the cake to cool completely.
Icing – heat jam & water together until the jam melts, then pour onto the icing sugar. Mix. Spoon on
top of the cake and decorate with the apricots.

RULES FOR EXHIBITORS
•
Only one exhibit per person may be entered in any one class.
•
All fruit, vegetables, herbs and flowers (with the exception of Class 34 35
and 75) must be grown by the exhibitor.
•
All produce, photography, art, crafts and junior class entries must be the
work of the exhibitor.
•
Judges may withhold prizes if they consider the exhibits not worthy of
winning or if there are insufficient entries in a class.
•
Reasonable care will be taken of the exhibits but the committee cannot
accept any claims for damage or loss.
•
The judges’ decisions are final.
•
All exhibits must be staged between 8.30am and 10am on 15th August,
after which time no other exhibits will be exhibited and only the judges
and stewards may remain in the tent.
•
Exhibits must be left in position until 4pm and should be removed before
4.30pm or they may be included in the auction of exhibits for show
funds.
•
Prize money not collected by 4.30pm on 15th August will be taken as a
donation to show funds.
•
Exhibits should be entered on the entry form included in this schedule
(or a photocopy), and should be submitted with entry fees of 25p per
class no later than Wednesday 12th August to one of the collection
addresses overleaf. Late entries may be accepted at a cost of 50p per
class, but only at the discretion of the organisers, who reserve the right
to refuse entries submitted after this date.

Prizes & Awards (to be presented at 3.45pm)
In all classes the prize money will be as follows:
1st Prize: 50p
2nd Prize: 30p
3rd Prize: 20p
In all classes, points will be awarded as follows:
1st Prize: 4 points
2nd Prize: 2 points
3rd Prize: 1 Point
The Eric White Memorial Trophy will be awarded to the exhibitor achieving the
most points across the show.
Jim Payne Jubilee Floral Arrangement Trophy will be awarded to the best floral
arrangement in any class.
The Royal Horticultural Society Banksian Medal will be awarded to the
exhibitor achieving the most points in the Vegetables & Fruit section.
(Exhibitors who were awarded the Banksian Medal in the last 2 years are not
eligible for this award.)
Section Trophies will be awarded to the exhibitors achieving the most points in
the following sections: Flowers; Photography, Arts & Crafts; Produce; Junior
Classes (age 8 and under); Junior Classes (ages 9 - 16)
Best Exhibit Trophies will be awarded for the best exhibit in each section.
The Ashburnham & Penhurst Gardening Club Trophy will be awarded to the
member of the Ashburnham & Penhurst Gardening Club who achieves the most
combined points in all adult sections.

Auction (4.30pm)
Following the prize-giving any exhibits remaining will be auctioned for show
funds.
Any items you do not want to be auctioned should be removed by 4.30pm.

The entry fee is 25p per exhibit before Wednesday 12th (but late entries will be
charged at 50p per exhibit).
