INSULATED SHEATHING EXTERIOR INSULATION + STRUCTURAL PANEL + WATER RESISTANT BARRIER I N O N E PA C K A G E Introducing patent pending ThermalStar® LCi-SS™, a continuous insulated structural sheathing product for residential, multi-family and light commercial construction, that meets R3 (climate zone 4), R5 (zone 5), and R7.5 (zone 6) assembly rating for IRC prescriptive “ci” use. LCi-SS is an innovative solution because it reduces material and labor costs by combining continuous envelope insulation, code prescriptive structural capacity and a water resistant barrier all in one product. With LCi-SS, you receive the “building science” advantages of continuous envelope insulation (a significant reduction in air infiltration, thermal bridging and potential moisture issues) while attaining a higher overall R-value. LCi-SS also saves money over both typical R20 2 x 6 construction and other continuous insulation methods. Since LCi-SS is installed with our patent pending nailing system, there are no structural compromises that are commonly associated with other composite continuous insulation products. When have you had an opportunity to offer your customers a performance advantage that saves them money? Continuous insulation provides lower moisture r i s k , h i g h e r overall R-value and less air infiltration over ty pi c al 2 x 6 wall systems. The following compares a R1 3+5 wall system with a standard R20 2x6 wall design. R13+5 WALL CONSTRUCTION W I T H T HERMALSTAR LCi-SS INSULATED SHEATHING CONVENTIONAL 2x6 WALL C O N S T R U C T I O N •Thermal bridging wood structural components are covered from foundation to gable top. The temperature inside the wall cavity of a +5 wall in cold climates is approximately 25 degrees higher than a thicker, R20 wall. This moves the dew point outside the wall cavity reducing potential condensation issues. •Without continuous insulation, approximately 25% of a wall is comprised not of insulation, but rather wood components (studs, headers, plates and other lumber). •Each wood component is a thermal gap in the exterior building envelope, allowing the heat and cold to conduct into and through the structure of a building. This is called thermal bridging. •Thermal bridging creates lower wall cavity temperatures (up to 25 degrees) over a continuous exterior insulated wall that is prone to damaging moisture condensation on cold surfaces and assuring the dew point of the wall system is effectively inside the wall system. •The whole wall R-value of a R13+5 wall construction is 17.26, or over 10% higher than a 2 x 6 R20 wall! •Air infiltration leakage points are greatly reduced at rim joists and other problem areas. Blower door tests are much easier to pass with LCi-SS. A 13+5 wall built with ThermalStar LCi-SS has a higher R-value, less air infiltration, better moisture & thermal performance, covers hard to insulate areas like the rim joists & actually costs less than an R20 wall. •When a wall system is compromised by thermal bridging, the whole wall R-value of a conventional 2 x 6 is not R20– but actually R15.67. ThermalStar LCi-SS is 3rd party evaluated for code prescribed racking by DrJ Engineering (TER 1311-02), has water resistive barrier and fire code approvals by UL (UL ER16529.1). THE THERMALSTAR LCi-SS INSTALLATION ADVANTAGE LCi-SS is installed with a patent pending nail gun. This nail gun, and Senco nails must be used for installation in order for limited lifetime warranty to apply. This nail gun ensures that the sheathing nails used are installed and secured with the heads correctly seated on the surface of the OSB. Other composite insulation sheathing products have non-typical nailing design specifications that may cause compromised structural capacity. LCi-SS is prescriptively nailed, which classifies the product as continuous sheathing (CS) in the IRC. Just like typically installed wood sheathing, which has proven structural performance over decades and millions of homes, LCi-SS does not have structural compromises. The insulation layer is permanently adhered to the OSB with polyurethane technology, so there is no worry of de-lamination over time. YOU ARE BUILDING A B E T T E R WA L L S Y S T E M WITH THERMALSTAR LCi-SS ON EVERY LEVEL DESIGNING & BUILDING DETAILS DESIGNING W I T H T HE RMALSTAR LCi-SS INSULATED SHEATHING • Available sizes: 4’x8’, 4’x9’ or 4’x10’ sheets • Manufactured with EPSx® technology, providing integrated termite protection and wax matrix for excellent moisture resistance. • Use of LCi-SS creates no structural compromises. • Manufactured with 7/16” Exposure I PS2-04 16/24” OSB. Since it connects the OSB directly to the stud with a proprietary and patent pending nail gun, LCi-SS qualifies as continuous sheathing. • Meets code prescriptive insulation requirements as the +5 component of a 13+5 system equal to R20, equal to U 0.057. • Most siding, brick veneers, thin set veneers and stucco systems can be applied over LCi-SS. LCi-SS is easy to use, however, for best use, please refer to the installation manual for full instructions and details. BUILDING W I T H T H ER MA L STAR LCi-SS INSULATED SHEATHING • LCi-SS cuts and routes just like standard OSB. • LCi-SS is fastened with a proprietary Senco nail gun and nails. This nail gun is specifically designed to drive the sheathing fastener through the foam layer seating the nail head directly on the surface of the OSB. These nail guns are available wherever LCi-SS is sold. • LCi-SS is taped at the joints and edges to enhance air infiltration performance instead of using housewrap. • Siding can be applied directly over the LCi-SS. Check installation directions for fastener requirements. • Window installs and associated flashing are largely unchanged. +5 CONTINUOUS STRUCTURAL INSULATED SHEATHING WITH NO COST OR COMPROMISES THAT DELIVERS A tlas E PS, a D i v i s i o n o f A t l a s Roo fing C o r p or a tion 8240 Byron Center Ave SW, Byron Center, MI 49315 • (800)917-9138 • www.atlaseps.com ATLAS, the Globe Logo, Solutions.
