ThermalStar® LCi-SS™

ThermalStar® LCi-SS™
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Patent pending ThermalStar LCi-SS™ (Laminated Continuous Insulation- Structural
Sheathing) is an insulated structural sheathing product with a distinctive orange color.
Unlike other nailbase products, the OSB of LCi-SS faces inward, with the insulation
on the exterior side. Standard features include:
x EPS core with a 7/16” exposure I PS2-10 OSB inside
x Alternate products available to meet energy code requirements, R3, R5 or R7.5
x LCi-SS nailing system allows for code prescriptive structural design with no
structural compromises
x The EPS component has integrated subterranean termite protection and moisture
resistance for above grade. See reverse for further details.
x Significant reduction in air infiltration and thermal bridging
x No requirement to tape nail holes
x Qualifies as an air barrier material— E2178 compliant
x Qualifies as a water resistant barrier— AC71 compliant
x 4’x8’ and 4’x9’ sheets standard, 4’x10’ sheets available upon request
x Easy application of most veneer stone, vinyl, wood and fiber cement siding

TYPICAL USES
US Physical Properties
Property & ASTM Test Method
ThermalStar® LCi-SS™ has been designed specifically
to provide continuous exterior insulated structural
sheathing in single family, multi-family and light commercial construction. The integrated sheet of 7/16”
span rated OSB and nailing system allows uncompromised code prescriptive structural design. Since LCiSS includes the integrated sheet of OSB, it eliminates
the need to consult with a structural engineer, unlike
competing products. Lastly, it reduces costs and installation time by providing insulation, structural support
and a water resistant barrier all in one product.

STANDARD SIZES
Shear Capacity
Typically, ThermalStar LCi-SS is supplied as 4’x8’ or 4’x9’ panels. 4’ x
10’panels are available upon request. The edges of the panels are
supplied square cut.
LCi-SS is made with 7/16” nominal panel thickness OSB Exposure I
24/16 PS2-10 Sheathing, therefore, code prescriptive shear values
apply to this product. Validated by TER report 1311-02.
MOLD RESISTANCE
The ThermalStar LCi-SS foam core has been tested against 4 week
exposure to various mold and fungi via ASTM G21, D3273, and
C1338 with no growth of spores on the product. The LCi-SS foam
core provides no nutritive value for mold. However, construction
practices greatly impact mold growth, and fungi have been known to
even grow on glass.
FREEZE/ THAW EXPOSURE
The ThermalStar LCi-SS foam core has been tested via ASTM C1512
Moisture & Temperature Cycling for Insulation with no loss of physical
or thermal performance. This test places the product between a cold
chamber and a high humidity chamber with temperature cycling,
measuring the effect on the insulation as natural moisture drive occurs.
SAFETY
MSDS for this product available at www.atlaseps.com. Dust
generated from cutting ThermalStar LCi-SS should be avoided using
a dust mask as with other building materials. LCi-SS is combustible
and the product should be protected from ignition sources such as
open flames or welder’s torch. Applications not specifically listed in UL
ER16529.1 require permanent separation of LCi-SS from the interior
of the building by a thermal barrier such as drywall or concrete for fire
safety.

ENVIRONMENTAL
ThermalStar LCi-SS uses air in the insulating cells, emitting no gasses. The ppm levels of termiticide incorporated into the polystyrene do
not present leaching concerns under typical applications. LCi-SS is
readily accepted for recycle. Visit www.epspackaging.org to locate a
drop-off location nearest you.
TERMITE RESISTANCE
This product includes a foam layer that is a treated article. The foam
layer is resistant to above grade termite attack at low to moderate
levels, against subterranean termites. This product has not been
tested for resistance against Formosan Termites.
Notes:
x OSB is facing inward to increase racking strength
x This product is to be installed and treated the same as a typical
OSB layer, assuming vertical orientation
x Proprietary nail gun must be used to install LCi-SS
x SENCO nails must be used for warranty to apply
x Joints must be taped using ThermalStar 007 tape or equivalent
x Typical vertical nailing– 6” O.C. of the edges and 12” O.C. in the
field
x Horizontal Nailing—6” O.C. throughout , double nail at horizontal
seams
