free parking. Our front door
faces 170 Street and we now
have our big blue canopy sign
above the display windows.
As Barb says, ”the move went
so well; we were organized
and packed up and moved in
one weekend, thanks to our
incredible staff, family members and our new friends from
Victoria Comp High School.”
Our new space is roomy,
bright and open with high ceilings, wide aisles and room to
display samples and product.
Our shelves are full and we’re
bringing out more yarns every
day. We have a private and
quiet workshop room, with
bright lighting, perfect for
learning new skills from our
instructors. Upstairs is a mezzanine area that we are still
designing. And we have a cozy
library nook where you can

Malabrigo Rios to warm you!
We’ve restocked our supply of the ever so
sumptious, Malabrigo Rios. Rios is a superwash merino wool that is kettle dyed in supersaturated colours. Each hank contains
192m/100g and knits up to a worsted gauge of
18—22sts/10cm on 4.0—5.0mm needles.
Malabrigo Rios
We have it in: #30 Purple Mystery, #69 Pearl
Ten, #412 Teal Feather, #611 Ravelry Red,
#624 Coco, #150 Azul Profundo, #96 Sunset,
#37 Lettuce and #16 Glazed Carrot.
There are many projects you can do in
Malabrigo Rios… we’ve paired it up with a
fine mohair for extra winter warmth to knit up
our RCY Epic Wristwarmers. As a superwash yarn, Rios is also perfect for winter accessories, baby knits, kids’ and adult sweaters
and home décor. Cynthia used four skeins to
make a very special Churchmouse Vintage
Crocheted Baby Blanket. We have lots of
great project ideas for you!

New and noteworthy from noro
Brand new from Noro, check out Haniwa: made from 50% Silk,
30% Wool and 20% Nylon, this worsted weight yarn knits up at
an average gauge of 20sts and 26rows over 10cm on 4.5mm needles. Each 50g ball has 110m and we have it available in 5 colourways: #3 (Green, Coral &

it’s silky softness makes it a great
accessory yarn (wear it next to
your skin.)

Our fall workshop lineup...
We’ve been hard at work planning out our
fall workshops. We’ve got a busy October
planned and then fun and seasonal activities for November and December. Our
workshops are all up on our website where
you can print monthly calendars, check out
the details and photos and register online.
Our ever-popular, learn to knit program:
Knitting 101 is being offered four times in
October. Knitting 101 covers all the basics
of knitting and is great for those just starting out and those needing a refresher. Get
a good grounding
and you’ll do less
“tinking” (that’s
knitting backwards). In November, we have a Knitting 101 offered in
the evening and a
Sunday session, too.

Farøe, a new value-priced yarn from Sirdar
($6.99/ball) is out on the shelves. Made from
60% acrylic, 25% cotton and 15% wool, Farøe
knits up to a bulky 9sts/10cm on 10.0mm needles. Want a quick sweater? Done in a weekend! Come in and see our sample garment!
We also have new colourways in Misti Alpaca handpainted Sock yarn and handpainted
Chunky. This soft and luxurious 100% alpaca
yarn is a one skein wonder. You only need
one to make the Ribs & Ruffles Scarf (pattern
link on p. 4).
Cozy Cowls from Estelle yarns
Estelle Murrina Cowl
or Infinity Scarf
Estelle Murrina is a beautiful 40% merino wool, 40% acrylic, 20% viscose yarn
that works up quickly on 6.0—9.0mm
needles. You’ll get 110m/100g ball.
Estelle has free patterns available for
this yarn, including a beautiful diagonal
scarf (an easy knit for an advanced beginner) that uses only 3 balls of Drake
and a pair of 10mm needles. Check out
the one ball Cowl and the three ball long
Infinity Scarf. Pattern links available on
page 4.
Estelle Drake is a bulky (12sts/10cm on
8.0mm needles) yarn that blends 70% wool
and 30% acrylic. The lovely Mobius Cowl
(pictured right) is a free pattern that uses 3
balls of Drake and 8.0mm needles. It’s knit
“flat” with a provisional cast on that lets you
insert a twist before you connect your ends.
Or pick up 4 balls and knit the Hooded Scarf
version (with pockets!).
All of our new Estelle yarns are available at
both RCY locations.

South: Rowan Kidsilk haze Trio
Kidsilk Haze Trio is made up of three
strands of Rowan's ever popular Kidsilk
Haze spun together to make a beautiful
soft and lightweight yarn. Trio offers all
the softness of Kidsilk Haze in a bigger
gauge.
rivercityyarns.com
Each 50g/140m ball of Trio (70% kid
mohair, 30% silk) has a knitting gauge of
17st and 20 rows over 10cm on 5.5mm
needles. It’s soft, it’s decadent, it has a pattern book! You’ll find this
lovely yarn at River City Yarns Southside location.
Not just for socks yarn
We love our sock yarn, that goes without saying. But just because a yarn says
“socks” doesn’t mean you have to make socks with it. Take Lang Mille Colori
Socks & Lace yarn (pictured right). It’s one of our most popular yarns for
shawls because the colours blend gradually and this singles yarn (no plies) is so
soft. This machine washable yarn is great for any pattern calling for “fingering” weight. And we have more of
our very popular Lang Jawoll Aktion sock yarn (above left). The beautiful colours in this hard-wearing, machine washable yarn make it perfect for “action” garments. Each ball comes with a spool of colour-coordinated
reinforcement thread (very nice for heels and toes). These yarns are available at both RCY locations.
What we’ve been up to
Sue’s socks made from
Regia Highland Tweed
Sue T. loves to knit socks
and she really likes Regia
Highlander Tweed, a slightly
thicker sock yarn. Sue sent
us this photo of her husband’s feet and said, “No
sooner did I get these Regia
Highlander Tweeds finished
and he had them on!”
Maybe this is the secret to a
long and happy relationship?
Warm cozy feet?
Rebecca L. sent us this
photo of her lovely Persian cat staking claim to
her River City Yarns
shopping bag. We hear
that it’s when the cat is
out of the bag that your
secret is out, so the cat in
the bag is a good thing,
right? We all think Rebecca’s cat has very good
taste in bags!
