The American School of Dubai is seeking to identify outstanding candidates for the position of high school principal to assume the role on August 1, 2015 The American School of Dubai (ASD) is a K‐12, coeducational day school operating in the Emirate of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. ASD was founded in 1966 and today operates as an independent not‐for‐profit North American community school governed by a self‐ perpetuating Board of Trustees. Mission The mission of the American School of Dubai is to challenge and inspire each student to achieve their dreams and to become a passionate learner prepared to adapt and contribute in a rapidly changing world. Faculty and Staff Consistently over the years, the strength of ASD has been a well‐qualified, dedicated and caring faculty and staff. The high school faculty and staff have developed positive ownership in the program and pride themselves in providing an exceptional educational environment in which students can learn and pursue their passions. The high school currently employs a total of 75 faculty and staff. The high school team further consists of four counselors, department heads and grade level team leaders who coordinate the academic program of the various levels and departments. The high school student enrollment will grow to 575 in 2015‐2016 as the school expands and will eventually grow to 800 in 2019‐2020 with the construction of a new middle school and remodeling of current middle school to accommodate a larger high school program. High School Program The High School presently serves the academic and social needs of 505 students. ASD is a college preparatory school that has a reputation for striving for academic excellence while ensuring that the individual student is able to express him / herself through opportunities in a wide variety of extracurricular activities. The high school delivers the educational program through an eight‐period block distributed over a two day period. The standards‐based curriculum is delivered using a standards‐based grading and reporting system. A variety of Advanced Placement courses are integrated into the program of study College acceptances have been extended to ASD students by highly competitive colleges and universities. ASD is also in the process of further developing a more comprehensive service‐learning program in KG1 ‐ 12th grade. The high school is a vibrant member of the Middle East South Asia Conference (MESAC) and provides athletic and academic competitions, and celebrates artistic achievements with other international schools in the region. The ASD High School community of students, parents, faculty and staff collaborate to create a unique and friendly environment in which students feel accepted, valued and respected. ASD Facilities The American School of Dubai is a five‐year old world‐class facility that has set a benchmark for schools in the region. ASD moved to a purpose-built facility in August of 2010. The high school facility includes an amazing library, well resourced classrooms, science labs, art studios, instrumental and vocal music facilities, a beautiful performing arts theater, a black box theater, a large field house to include an indoor running track, dance studio, weight room and climbing wall, regulation soccer field, a swimming pool, a cafeteria and a wireless school environment with amazing landscaped garden areas. ASD is a laptop school. Every student in Grades 6 through 12 owns their own laptop and technology literacy skills are integrated in instruction throughout the school. Each faculty member is provided a laptop. Enrollment The School is divided into three major divisions: elementary, middle and high school. The school current serves 1660 with an anticipated increase in enrollment to 1790 in 2015‐2016 and to 2200 in 2019‐2020. Most students enter the school fluent in English. ASD currently serves a U.S. passport holding student population of 62%, 16% of the students are Canadian and the balance of the 22% consist of students from 53 different countries. The Position The High School Principal is the academic and administrative leader of the high school and its community. The principal provides leadership and inspiration in combination with organizational and management skills to successfully guide the School to provide what is best about American education in order to create learning experiences which promote the potential of each student.
