All you need to make the blocks for this quilt is one jelly roll and 1 1/2 yards of background fabric. Very little fabric remains. There is no waste. It is a very traditional quilt, but the scrappiness makes it uniquely yours. This quilt is simple, scrappy and stunning. The piano key border perfectly compliments the diversity of the fabric in the quilt blocks. This is an advanced beginner class. Or say that you really want to get the hang of paper-piecing or some other skill. Or maybe our classes just don’t fit in your schedule. Collectors of I spy fabrics (you know who you are) need a great project to feature interesting motifs. This class will teach how you to fussy cut your focus fabrics into 4 and 6 inch hexagons and frame blocks using the hexagon trim tool. The second session will teach you how to sew Y seams using this clever tool. Required: Intermediate skills, pattern, ruler. If an emergency arises and you cancel less than 10 days before the first class, but at least one day before, a class certificate will be issued. Orange Peels and Improv Orange peels are beautiful and striking traditional blocks that can be manipulated in exciting ways. Here we’ll use them with improvisational piecing to make a baby quilt that you’ll be proud to show off. In class 1 you’ll learn the “stitch and flip” method for making the orange peels. Make some in class and the rest at home. In class 2 you’ll use your low-volume prints to stitch them into a quilt top that is uniquely your own. For intermediate sewists. This is a great example of what else you can do with this simple unit. Choose a focus print, pull some coordinating fabrics from your stash, mix everything together with a light and a dark and you're headed for a great looking quilt.
