AVRDC – The World Vegetable Center is a nonprofit, autonomous international agricultural research center with
headquarters in Taiwan and regional offices around the globe. AVRDC conducts research and development
programs that contribute to improved incomes and diets in the developing world through increased production
and consumption of nutritious and health-promoting vegetables. AVRDC’s Regional Office for West and Central
(AVRDC-WCA) in Bamako conducts vegetable research and development and provides training and information
services with the goal of improving nutrition and livelihoods among small-scale farmers and consumers in West

We are seeking a highly motivated and qualified Project Support Officer to coordinate and build linkages
between AVRDC projects to expand the impact of the projects, support the development of training activities
for NGOs, government and the private sector, assist in project monitoring and evaluations and develop new
project opportunities in the region. The position will be based at AVRDC-WCA's Bamako office and report to the
Regional Director for WCA with functional linkages to Global Themes.
The position is open for nationals from Mali or nationals from countries in the West and Central African region
who can be legally authorized to work in Mali.
The Job: The Project Support Officer is responsible for ensuring quality and efficiency of organizational support
services to the projects. Specific duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
1. Assist the Regional Director
a. in managing the existing project portfolio and partnerships
b. in building linkages and synergies between projects
c. in developing and enhancing public and private sector collaboration in projects
d. in coordinating with the technical experts in the development of new project proposals and partnerships
2. Assist in designing training and extension materials in conjunction with project field staff and organize their
production and distribution
3. Assist in organizing project workshops for planning, training and evaluation purposes
4. Assist in reporting on research work done by the projects
The Person: Applicants must have a Master degree in business administration or social science, with a minimum
of three years’ experience preferably with an international NGO implementing food and agriculture related
projects; Proven experience in providing high quality organizational support services to projects managed by
senior scientific staff; Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and French; Excellent
interpersonal and customer service skills with ability to work with people of diverse social and cultural
backgrounds; Ability to plan and work independently with little supervision; Good analytical skills with the
ability to comprehend key issues from complex data/ information; Proficiency in computation skills for
document processing, preparing presentations and data analysis. Demonstrated personal integrity and ability to
deal with sensitive issues with tact and diplomacy while maintaining complete discretion and confidentiality;
Work experience in West and Central Africa and experience interacting with national government departments
and non‐governmental organizations are distinct advantages
The Reward: AVRDC provides a competitive pay and benefits commensurate with experience. Initial appointment
will be for two years, renewable subject to funding availability and performance of the incumbent. The position
will be available on or before 1 August 2015.
