Participants must pre-register with
the City of Benson Recreation Department at 705 W. Union Street.
There is a $5.00 registration fee,
per camp, per child. Space is limited,
in order to accommodate more children parent/guardian participation
is strongly recommended. Be sure to
wear appropriate shoes for all activities at Kartchner Caverns, and bring
plenty of water, sunscreen, and a
hat.

AT KARTCHNER CAVERNS
Reptiles 101
Join us at Kartchner Caverns to learn about some of Arizona’s most fascinating creatures. Find out the
answers to questions like: Can snakes climb trees? What does a Gila Monster eat? Why do rattlesnakes
rattle? And many more! Come prepared to learn more about these often misunderstood creatures. Camp
date: June 2nd, from 3:30 pm - 5:00 pm. Location: Kartchner Caverns State Park, Large Group Use
Ramada.
Desert Dwellers: The Mammals Around Us
Kartchner Caverns State Park is home to a variety of mammals. We will discuss what mammals call the desert home along with some of the special adaptations they have developed. We will then venture into the
outdoors and look for signs of these animals, and who knows what we might find along the way! Camp date:
June 9, from 3:30 pm - 5:00 pm. Location: Kartchner Caverns State Park, Large Group Use Ramada.
Family Friendly Scavenger Hunt
Join Kartchner Caverns State Park Rangers on a family friendly scavenger hunt. Search for desert plants,
rocks, and other exciting features along the Foothills Loop trail. The trail is 2.5 miles of moderate difficulty. Wear sturdy shoes or hiking boots and bring plenty of water. A hat and sunscreen are highly
recom-mended. This trail is far too rocky for strollers, front or back carriers would be best for families
with wee ones. Date: Tuesday, June 16, at 6:00 pm. Meet at the Amphitheater. Children must be
accompanied by an adult.
Heads up! It’s a bat!
Bats are fascinating animals. Did you know that they are the only mammal who can fly?
Bats are nothing like what you see in the movies either and offer so much to us! Come
ready to learn more bout this rather mysterious animal and have some fun with how they
help to provide for us. Tuesday, June 23, from 3:30 - 5:00 pm. Location: Kartchner Caverns State Park, Large Group Use Ramada.
