In this class, you will build on what you learned in Zentangle Basics. Patti has planned four intermediate classes in which you will learn eight new 'tangles in each session (for a total of 64 'tangles!). Ink Paper Scissors - Introduction to Mixed Media May 8th [Thursday] / 6:00 - 9:00 Instructor: Patti Class Fee: $35.00 Join Patti for an introduction to paper arts... Queen's Ink style. This workshop is the prerequisite to registering for most of our workshop offerings, since the techniques and concepts you'll learn here form the basis for your success in our workshop repertoire. Learn about the various paper types and other surfaces used for stamping and paper arts, explore the wide variety of inks, including a little chemistry lesson about their make-ups, which ink to use on which surface, which to emboss or heat-set (or not!), and see various papercrafting tools in action. You'll discuss adhesives... the importance of selecting the right one for your project, and take the opportunity to use a few different ones. Get your hands a little bit dirty as you have the opportunity to play with some of these inks, papers, and adhesives, and try your hand at heat embossing with stunning results. Supply List: All supplies will be provided, including a nonstick craft mat, an "inkie-binkie", foam blending tool, and some specialty stamping paper... all of which you will take home! This workshop is all about using mixed media techniques to create a one-of-a-kind, unconventional artist book. Using vintage book covers as the base, you will be making a series of double-sided "pages" filled edge to edge with grungy goodness. A variety of art supplies - including paint, gesso, paste, sprays, daubers, stencils, inks, fabric, and more - will be combined to create layers of color, texture, and dimension. The approaches you will be introduced to can be applied to any surface and a multitude of other projects. Make the most of this synchronicity by creating a one-of-a-kind, mixed media journal that you can use to document a year in your life, week by week. In this workshop we will start by taking an ordinary deck of playing cards and, by using paint and paper, end up with a unique and personal journal small in size but large in impact. Along the way you will learn the secrets of creating textured and layered backgrounds, the basics of collage composition, and tricks of the trade to tie it all together. The uses for your creation are limited only by your imagination and can include a place to hold your weekly journaling, goals, documentation, affirmations, drawings, photographs, thoughts, love notes, or anything else. Discover fun and creative ways to make interesting marks, patterns and designs to create one-of-a-kind, lusciously colorful backgrounds. By the end of the class you will have completed 50 backgrounds... enough to construct your own 50-page 3"x2.5" mini journal (you might even have time to begin a second one with your leftover background pages). Think about what stories you'll be able to record. Don't blame the Queen if you fall hopelessly into Gelli Plate love after this class! (Don't have a plate? No worries, one will be provided for classroom use). Terry will bring lots of samples for inspiration, and you'll have plenty of time to experiment with lots of layers! Decorative Cigar Box Saturday, May 24th / 12:00 - 5:00 Instructor: Patti Class Fee: $48.00 Patti's love of altering cigar boxes hasn't wained (yet), so we will continue to schedule this very popular class periodically, as our customers request it. Patti will teach you the paper engineering techniques that result in a beautiful embellished cigar box, taking into account the foil decorations already on the box, and the accurate cutting and placement of paper required to achieve stunning results. All your adhesives and embellishments are included in the fee. The photos included here are only representative of the gorgeous finished product and you can see many more examples in our shoppe, but different paper collections will be used as they are released by our paper manufacturers. You can be assured of several collections from which to choose... all stunning.
