Scales – All instrumentalists will play 6 scales. **Guard will have a separate audition during their tryouts. ** Teaching Evaluation Component – Each candidate will be given an opportunity to teach the upcoming freshmen at the Pre-Rookie Camp in April/May in either music/marching. Signature_____________________________________________ Date_____________________ 2015-2016 Baldwin High School Band Student Leadership Application Student Leadership Positions It is an honor and a privilege to be a student leader in the Baldwin High School Band program. All leaders will lead by example, not by title. Student leaders will exist to support the band directors and to serve the band program. Being a student leader is a very time consuming role and will extend beyond just band practices. Drum Major The drum major is the most publicly visible person in the band program. This person represents the entire band program throughout Baldwin High School and the Milledgeville community. The drum major will be responsible for several duties during marching season and will continue to be utilized throughout the remainder of the year. Captain (Guard, Woodwind, Brass & Percussion) Each Captain will be the primary leader responsible for the guard, woodwinds, brass and percussion. They will assist their section leaders with all of their necessary duties. Captains will also have several additional duties as assigned by the directors. Section Leader Each section leader should be an outstanding musician and marcher. Section leaders will be responsible for providing an excellent example for the students in their section. Section leaders will also have several additional duties as assigned by the directors. Student Band Assistant (SBA) The Student Band Assistant is another highly visible person that represents the band at school and public functions. The SBA will work with other organizations at BHS when the band is needed. The SBA is responsible for assisting with attendance, organization of paperwork and forms, assist with communications as well as video and pictures of the band, the planning of social functions in the band program, including the band banquet. Music Officer The Music Officer is responsible for all aspects of the music for the band program and is responsible for the organization of the music library, keeping it clean, and other duties as assigned by the directors. Uniform Officer The Uniform Officer is responsible for all marching and concert uniforms for the band program. This includes maintain the organization of the uniform room, maintenance and organization of all uniform parts, distributing all uniforms on performance days, making sure that uniforms are hung properly and other uniform related duties as assigned by the directors. The Uniform Officer is responsible for assembling a crew of 2 people to assist him/her with all necessary tasks. Equipment Manager The Equipment Manager is responsible for all equipment for the band program. This includes truck loading, instrument inventory, electronic setup for rehearsals, podium setup for rehearsals, and other equipment related duties as assigned by the directors. The Equipment Manager is responsible for assembling a crew of 2-3 people to assist him/her with all necessary duties. The Audition Process Paperwork – Application, two Teacher Recommendation Forms (ALL CANDIDATES) DUE FRIDAY, APRIL 3RD @ 3:30 PM Additional Drum Major Paperwork – Essay/Photo DUE FRIDAY, APRIL 3RD @ 3:30 PM Phase 1 Live Audition – Teaching audition (Drum Major, Captains & Section Leader Candidates) of a small group of students for 3 minutes on taking 4 steps forward and halting. Audition will be in April/May. Interviews – Interview with the directors (All Instrumentalist Candidates) VARIES TIMES IN APRIL Scales – All instrumental candidates for all positions must play their 6 scales by MAY 1ST Woodwind, Brass & Percussion Captain – In order to be in this position, you must have been chosen to be a section leader for the coming season. Drum Major Candidates – Must attend audition camp and auditions on MAY 4TH -8TH .
