Carbide Tipped Saw Blades: We use the Industry Standard 10%
Rule when it comes to chipped teeth. For example If you have a
60-tooth blade and 5 teeth have broken or chipped points, we will
sharpen the blade and not replace any tips. This saves you money
and will not noticeably affect the cut. If you do want every tooth
fixed, put a note in with your blades. We will be happy to
replace as you request.

1/4" high speed steel. All others are usually 5/16".
Check with your custom knife sales consultant if you
have special requirements. We can grind almost any
profile. Mail, fax, or send your wood sample for a
quote today. Our charge is $19.50 per inch per knife;
minimum 2". Gibs and Counter weight can be
furnished for an extra charge of
$20.

Anything unusual that you may require with your
custom knives may cost an additional fee.
Williams and Hussey knives are typically cut off
bars of steel without regard for hole placement.
However, if you need holes in a particular place
on your knives an additional fee (“set-up” fee)

Custom Pattern Knife Installation
BALLEW SAW & TOOL
Each knife (See Fig. A) includes one (1) 5/16” thick Super High Speed Steel Profile Knife (A-1), one (1) Gib
(A-2) to secure the knife. If you have specified that you will be using a particular kind of knife in the Planer
Head, the knife will also be supplied with two (2) sets of Steel Weights (A-3) and Gibs (A-4) for counterbalancing the cutter head.
CAUTION: Each Profile Knife is carefully ground, weighed and correctly matched to the gib and counterbalances included with that particular knife. Keep each knife with its own gib and weights. Never use gibs
or weights from any other custom knives you may have purchased. Use of improperly matched gibs and
weights may cause excessive vibration and damage to moulder bearings.
NOTE: If you have ordered a knife to be used in the planer cutter head; do not use the gib supplied to secure
this knife in the custom knife holder. The weight of this gib will be different.
Figure B shows correct knife installation sequence depending on whether you are using the planer cutter head
or the custom knife holder. Note relief angle of knife in relation to direction of rotation.
IMPORTANT!: After running approximately 10 linear feet, stop the machine and retighten gibs!
