extensively to national, regional and remote centres across Australia and internationally each
year.
Position Description
We are seeking a Rehearsal Director. This is a 2 year fixed term position.
The Rehearsal Director reports to the Artistic Director and the Executive Director and is
responsible for supervising the dance ensemble and all of the dancers’ rehearsal and
performance activities.
The Rehearsal Director is responsible for planning and implementing the dancers’ requirements
relating to the presentation and operation of Bangarra productions. The Rehearsal Director is
responsible for coordinating all aspects of performances from concept to realisation on stage
working closely with choreographers, designers, composers and the Company’s Artistic
Director.
In conjunction with the Company Manager and/or Production Manager, the Rehearsal Director
is responsible for managing the requirements of the dancers when on national, regional and
international tours including assisting the Company’s management (Marketing and Development
personnel) with stakeholder relations.

Areas of Responsibility
Maintenance of the Dance Ensemble
• Teach and coordinate teachers to conduct technical classes for the dance ensemble
• Manage and coordinate the training program for the dance ensemble
• Monitor the dancers health and well being in conjunction with the Artistic Director and Head
Physiotherapist.

Assist in developing and managing trainee/graduate dancer program as required
Document injuries sustained by the dancers and liaise with the insurer in relation to the
management of dancers’ injuries in conjunction with the Manager, Finance & Operations
Communicate and enforce safety procedures including Occupational Health and Safety
requirements
Support the activities including attending meetings of the Company’s Safe Dance Panel in
conjunction with the Executive Director. Set agenda, record minutes and
implement/coordinate initiatives.
Provide pastoral care, career advice, and manage dancer engagement within the workplace
Realisation of the Creative Process
• Liaise across the Company and produce the rehearsal schedules for the dance ensemble
• Support choreographers in the process of creating the choreography
• Re-rehearse and remount choreography from current and past repertoire
• Work closely with the Artistic Director and/or choreographers and the Production Manager in
staging and spacing of theatre productions in all venues
Management
• Participate in management meetings and maintain a close working relationship with the
Executive Director
• Assist with the production and touring schedules in association with the Company Manager
and/or Production Manager
• Contribute to the development and management of the Company’s annual budget
Skills & Expertise

High-level experience in managing studio rehearsal schedules
With the Artistic Director, guide an ensemble of dancers to ensure they deliver performances
at the highest possible standard.
Experience at managing the budgets and schedules for guest teachers, therapists and other
associated studio related activities.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Capacity to work well and deliver results as part of a team environment.
Capacity to work collaboratively with the Company’s administration, finance, marketing,
development and production teams
Experience or capacity to manage safe dance practices.
Teach Company class at a high level in either or both classical ballet and contemporary
dance forms.
A demonstrated ability to contribute to the processes and elements of delivering large scale
theatre based and outdoor dance performances.
An established professional network and understanding of the national and international
dance industry.
A current NSW drivers license
Current first aid certificate – desirable

Key Performance Indicators
• Successfully coordinate studio activities.
• Assist the AD/guest choreographer in producing and remounting dance work.
• Promote and maintain a high level of technical and creative excellence and
professionalism.
• Ensure there is a positive, healthy, creative and productive ensemble
• Manage dancer schedule to meet performance outcomes and balance dancer workloads
• Manage Safe Dance Program resources successfully by targeting treatments and
initiatives appropriately within the schedule, allocate budget to maximum benefit.
