(In the library)
Dear Bayport-Blue Point Residents,
The Bayport-Blue Point Library Board of Trustees
is pleased to present for your consideration a 2015-2016
operating budget that will offer each community member
increased opportunities for personal enrichment while
continuing to ensure the outstanding services you expect
– in a fiscally responsible way.
No increase in state aid, lower interest rates and
increased competition for grants continue to have an
impact on our budget. And like most libraries across
New York State, your library has experienced increased
usage during these challenging economic times. In
response, we have developed a budget that prioritizes
affordability and restraint, while continuing to provide
the highest level of service.
The proposed increase for the Library’s 2015-2016
operating budget is 1.6 percent – below the State’s two
percent tax cap. Under this budget, salaries and benefits
were increased just over one percent; while books,
programs and other materials were increased about five
percent. The projected cost to the average homeowner is
under $7 per year. Put in perspective, this is less than the
cost of purchasing one paperback book!
At this time, more than ever before, the Library has
become important in the structure of our lives. As our
community, society and the world continue to rapidly
change, the Library has been able to adapt quickly to
provide services that address your continuously changing
needs. Even after the Library closes, you can still search
our website to gain access to thousands of magazines and
newspapers; reserve books; download books, videos and/
or music; receive one-on-one online homework help; talk
to an online librarian and much more. We will continue
to evolve for you; and with your help and guidance, we
will continue to improve your public library!
As always, we sincerely thank you for your
continued support and ask that you please come to the
Bayport-Blue Point Library and VOTE on April 14,
2015, from 1:00 to 9:00 p.m.
Respectfully,
The Bayport-Blue Point Library Board of Trustees
