PATTERN NOTE
Hat is made with yarn held double throughout. It is knitted flat and yarn may be carried up sides. Stitch
markers may be useful when shaping the Crown. Place a marker bet every 10 sts to mark decreases.

Brim
With A held double, cast on 70 sts.
Row 1 (RS): *K1, p1; rep from * across.
Row 2: *P1, k1; rep from * across.
Rows 3-4: Rep Rows 1-2.
Rows 5-8: Work in St st, starting with a RS row.
Rows 9-10: Drop A, with B work 2 rows in St st.
Rows 11-14: Drop B, with A work 4 rows in St st.
Rows 15-18: Drop A, with B wrok 4 rows in St st.
Rows 19-22: Drop B, with A work 4 rows in St st.
Rows 23-32: Drop A, with B work 10 rows in St st.

Crown
Using A for the remainder of the Crown, begin Crown shaping.
Row 1: *K8, k2tog; rep from * across – 63 sts.
Row 2 and all even rows: Purl across.
Row 3: * K7, k2tog; rep from * across – 56 sts.
Row 5: * K6, k2tog; rep from * across – 49 sts.
Row 7: * K5, k2tog; rep from * across – 42 sts.
Row 9: * K4, k2tog; rep from * across – 35sts.
Row 11: * K3, k2tog; rep from * across – 28 sts.
Row 13: * K2, k2tog; rep from * across – 21 sts.
Row 15: * K1, k2tog; rep from * across – 14 sts.
Cut yarn, leaving a 12” tail.
Bill
Fold Brim in half and mark center st. On RS, using A held double, pick up and knit 13 sts to the right of the
center along Cast-On edge, pick up and knit 11 more sts to the left of center, 24 sts total.
Row 1: Sl 1, k22, wrap and turn.
Row 2: Sl 1, k21, wrap and turn.
Row 3: Sl 1, k20, wrap and turn.
Row 4: Sl 1, k19, wrap and turn.
Row 5: Sl 1, k18, wrap and turn.
Row 6: Sl 1, k17, wrap and turn.
Row 7: Sl 1, k16, wrap and turn.
Row 8: Sl 1, k15, wrap and turn.
Row 9-10: Sl 1, k14, wrap and turn.
Row 11: Sl 1, k15, wrap and turn.
Row 12: Sl 1, k16, wrap and turn.
Row 13: Sl 1, k17, wrap and turn.
Row 14: Sl 1, k18, wrap and turn.

Bind off all sts. Fold Bill toward inside of Hat. Using tapestry ndl, whip st underside of Brim to Hat.
FINISHING
Thread 12” yarn tail from Crown onto tapestry ndl and draw through remaining sts. Pull tight to close
Crown. Sew back seam and weave in ends.
Vertical Stripes
Using B and a crochet hook, pull a loop from underside of Hat to RS on first Row of St st. Using photo as a
guide, sl st B following knit st line to top B stripe. Skip one row to the right and rep process, sk 7 rows to
the right of this row and rep. Cont in this manner until 7 sets of double stripes have been stitched. Block
lightly.
