State Testing is Almost Here!!
The Smarter Balanced Assessment will be administered after Spring Break this year. As we near the testing
window I would highly encourage you to explore the resources on our school’s website as well as the multiple
resources available online to help prepare your child for SBAC testing. In order for our students to be successful
please make sure they are attending school every day. In addition, our students should be reading every night
for twenty minutes. We participate in the Accelerated Reader Program and offer some great rewards to those
students that are reading regularly and taking quizzes before school, during lunch, and after school in the
library. Also, we expect our students to demonstrate all five of our expectations: Be Safe, Be Responsible, Be
Ready to Learn, Be Cooperative, Be Respectful. Students demonstrating these expectations will continue to be
rewarded through our Cavalier of Character Positive Referrals and award assemblies. I would also like to thank
our parents for ensuring that our students arrive on time each and every day. When students are late it causes
disruption for all students in class. Our Cavaliers have done a great job of arriving to school on time!! We
continue to offer our students a well-rounded experience as our students are preparing for History Day, Science
Fair, Math Counts, Math Bowl, Academic Pentathlon, sports, Math Field Day, and we will soon be adding a
Robotics Club!! We are a school that is on the move and ready to set the standard for middle schools!!!
Go Cavaliers!!!

Meet Ms. Jackie Frias
I grew
up in Bakersfield with an older brother
and younger sister but I was originally born in
Houston, Texas. I have gone to 9 different
schools which include McKee, Sandrini, Pauly,
VanHorn, Bessie Owens, Fruitvale, Centennial, Bakersfield College and ending at CSUB
with a B.S. in Psychology. I plan on going
back for my M.S. in Counseling Psychology to
become a LPCC (Licensed Professional Clinical
Counselor). I have always enjoyed working
with children with my first experience beginning in a pedagogy class in high school as a
kindergarten teacher’s assistant. I followed
this with being a swim instructor as I was going through college. I then landed a job as an
Applied Behavioral Analyst for children with
autistic spectrum disorders. Following this, I
was as a Support Counselor for at risk
youth. Now, as a Cato Cavalier I plan to use
the skills I have acquired and continue to
grow with the positive school culture!
