A Message about Our Communications Director

As many of you are already aware, our Communications Director Vicki
Thomson has resigned from our staff to venture out on her own. We will
miss Vicki and her commitment to excellence and the professionalism
she exhibited in her four years of service here. Our church is thankful for
every crossed t and dotted i. When you see her please take the time to
express your appreciation (that’s probably not something we do for
each other nearly enough) and pray for her new endeavors (there is no
such thing as praying too much for each other). In the interim, as we
limp along without her, please be patient with our spelling, grammar,
and communication.
Would you like to help Bear Creek United Methodist

In the interim…
While we search for a new Communications Director, you will see
some changes as we try to fill in and try a few experiments.
 If you need to send articles or communicate regarding Communications, the email address to use is:
[email protected].
 We will publish a new edition of the Family News every other
week. That means ministry events need to plan ahead on communications and we will be firm about deadlines (10 days prior to
publication).
 On Sundays, when there is a Family News, hard copies will be
available for everyone, but a newsletter won’t be handed out to
everyone. Newsletters will be e-mailed on the weeks when there
is a publication. Remember, the website is always there for your
perusal.
 We may even try some new formats. Don’t be surprised; don’t get
upset; give us helpful feedback.
 If you have flyers that represent any activity or ministry of the
church you want to be publicly posted, it requires the approval
(for now) of the Lead Pastor/Lead Communicator. Allow 10 days
for that and please use a format that the Church Office can edit.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
UMW Summer Bible Study at the Creek
Ladies, the Bear Creek United Methodist Women invite you to
start the summer with an inspirational Bible study on Saturday, June
13. The free event will be held from 8:30am to 1:00pm in the Fellowship Hall. A continental breakfast and lunch will be provided for all
participants.
Guest speaker Meredeth Buchman will lead the study, based on
the book How Is It with Your Soul? by Priscilla Pope-Levison and Jack
Levison.
The book is available for $11 in the Bear Creek UMC
Office or between Sunday worship services in the Courtyard. The Amazon electronic book is available for
$5.35.
Attendees are asked to bring a nonperishable
food item for the Houston Northwest Community
Center Food Pantry.

Helping hands to the rescue
Have you heard that Bear Creek UMC will host
a Junior High United Methodist Mission Project
(JUMMP Camp) on our church grounds June 8-12?
Several church groups will come together to
meet the home repair and maintenance needs of Bear
Creek area residents who are unable to help themselves.
If you or someone you know could use help with home repairs,

pick up an information sheet in the church office.
Bear Creek Youth will prepare and serve dinner for the camp on
Monday, June 8. If you would like to serve and meet these amazing

VBS request! Items needed!
In order to have a successful VBS, we will need to locate these items for
our Bible Story Time and Game Time:
Lanterns, sleeping bags, a small tent, beach towels, blankets,
adult coats, adult gloves, bundled ropes, backpacks, gallon-sized
resealable bags, solid-colored bed sheets, foam slabs, cardboard
boxes, beige canvas tarp or sheet, large brown paper bags, artificial greenery, stackable blocks, hula hoops, bed pillows, small
spotlight, duct tape.
If you are able to donate any of these items to our VBS, please label them
with your contact information, and leave them in the church office. We
promise we will return them after VBS!

News alert! The deadline to register for Vacation Bible School is
Monday, June 1. This year’s program EVEREST: Conquering Challenges with
God’s Mighty Power! will be held Monday, June 22 through Thursday,
June 25, from 9:00am to noon.
Vacation Bible School is open to all children, ages 4 through 11 years
of age. Younger children must have turned 4 years old by September 1,
2014.
Kids will enjoy a variety of activities, including Bible stories, cooking,
crafts and music.
There is no charge for youngsters to attend Vacation Bible School.
Participants may order a VBS T-shirt for $10 and/or a music CD for $10.

Energizers
Energizers, a group of active adults age 50-plus, enjoy
gatherings that include day-long excursions. Energizers
is currently taking a break for the summer and will not
have meetings; however, be on the lookout for information about field trips. Please call Dot McLaren,

Fellowship Friday, an Energizers outreach ministry,
provides a loving, welcoming and fun environment for
family members with mild to moderate memory loss
who do not require skilled care. This program, a partnership between Interfaith CarePartners and BCUMC, is
designed to give caregivers some much needed time
away. The next Fellowship Friday will be June 12,
10:00am-1:30pm, in the Fellowship Hall. The theme will
be Father’s Day and entertainer/organist Jim Connors

Mothers Of Preschoolers (MOPS)
MOPS is a group of women with children 5 years
old and younger, who share a love for their families
and enjoy fellowship with other moms going through
the same (although very brief) journey in life. MOPS
meets the second and fourth Mondays of every
month (during the school year), 9:30-11:30am, in the
Fellowship Hall, with a great MOPPETS program in the
Family Life Center KidZone Nursery. They will meet
again for the regularly scheduled meetings when the
