Principal’s Message
Due to the weather, we have lost a lot of instructional time at Bel Air Elementary. We are working
diligently to adjust our calendars so that we can continue to meet the needs of our students, as well as
cover all the materials from the state curriculum. Parents, Mrs. Rosenbaum and I are asking that you
spend some extra time reading and ensuring that all homework is completed. Students will need the
additional practice as we get ready for the testing season.

Ms. Roop’s Shopping Mall
First grade students from Ms. Roop’s class participated in her annual shopping mall sale. Ms. Roop’s
students made necklaces, hats, airplanes, picture frames and other items to sell. Some students opted
to read to an adult for a fee. Ms. Roop provided staff members with “Roop Bucks” to shop in the
store.
The lesson covered SOL objectives 1.7, 1.8 and 1.9 (Economics). Students become the producers and
teachers the consumers. They learned how customers have to make choices. At the end of the
shopping extravaganza, students used the “Roop Bucks” earned from the items sold to purchase
games, coloring books and other items from Ms. Roop’s classroom store.
