Macmillan is a source of support,
helping with all the things that
people affected by cancer want
and need. We provide practical,
medical and emotional support through
our range of nurses, doctors and other health
professionals, cancer care centres and information
and support services.
When people need financial help to cope with the extra
costs cancer can bring, we give benefits advice and
Macmillan grants. We are also a force for change,
listening to people affected by cancer and working
together to improve cancer care in the UK.
More than one in three of us will get cancer.
For most of us it will be the toughest fight we
ever face.
And the feelings of loneliness and isolation that
so many people experience make it even harder.
Now, more than ever, we need people like you
to join our team and get involved. By taking part
in one of our fantastic challenges you can make
a huge difference to people affected by cancer.
No one should face cancer alone. And with your
support no one will.
Whether you take on a local 5k or an iconic
overseas marathon, you’ll be helping to
change lives with every step you take.
‘I’ll never forget what Macmillan did for my mother-in-law. I took
on a run to give something back. It was tough, but when people
chanted my name at the cheer points it gave me a real boost.’

We want the Team Macmillan experience to be the very best it can
be and volunteers play a key part in this. Did you know around
500 people in 2014 gave up their time to help support events and
shout and cheer as loud as possible? And we need even more for 2015!
Come rain or shine, early starts and long days, our cheerful team
are dedicated and very enthusiastic.
And here’s why some of them do it ...
‘It’s hard to put into words the feeling
I get every time I pull on my greens
to volunteer for Team Macmillan. It is
a great sense of pride knowing by me
being part of such a fantastic team
that in some small way I’m making
a difference to so many people affected
by cancer. I can honestly say I have
never met a nicer group of people
than everyone involved with Team
Macmillan. Keep up the great work!
I will continue to play my small part.’
Ian Johnson
‘I always come away with a sense
of achievement, a feeling that I made
a difference, and it always spurs me
on to think I can help more and do
more in my own life when I see what
others can overcome and achieve.
It really does put a smile on your
face and makes you appreciate
what we have in life.’
Vicky Clarke
If you would like to join in the fun on the other
side then look on our volunteering village at
macmillan.org.uk/GetInvolved/Volunteer
for some great opportunities.
From the stunning Lake Windermere
to our very own Lido Challenge, you can
go that extra length for people affected
by cancer.
Take on the ultimate challenge and
swim, bike and run for Macmillan.
With a range of distances to choose
from there’s something for everyone.
