Benalla Festival A Day in the Gardens Market - Community Group Registration of
Interest
The Benalla Festival Advisory Committee is seeking registrations of interest from community
organisations that may have a potential interest in the opportunity to manage the operation of the A Day
in the Gardens Market held in the Botanical Gardens as part of the annual program Benalla Festival
Program for a three year term.
The A Day in the Gardens market was established by the Benalla Family History Group in 2008 and is
an iconic feature of the Benalla Festival. The market provides an outlet for craftspeople, local
producers, artisans and designers producing high quality and unique products to showcase their wares
on the second Sunday of the Benalla Festival program from 9am to 3pm.
Management and operation of the market would occur via a negotiated licence agreement or similar
with the Benalla Festival Advisory Committee and would include responsibility for:







financial management
marketing and promotion (Benalla Festival would market through its program, website, facebook
and other advertising opportunities)
stall holder allocations
customer and stallholder liaison
risk management
market set up and breakdown
special events and activities, e.g. entertainment, children's activities.
A profit share arrangement with the Benalla Festival would benefit the managing organisation.
Market aims
 the continued successful operation of the market
 maximising the number of stall holders
 maximising market patronage
 maintaining the market ethos, and established terms and conditions
 good balance of high quality, handmade, local produce or crafted goods only
 stall capacity up to 150 stalls
This registration of interest is simply an indication of your organisation's potential interest in
management and operation of the Benalla Festival’s A Day in the Gardens Market.
The next stage of the process will include further discussions with Chair of the Benalla Festival Advisory
Committee Cr Suzy Martin regarding your organisation's capabilities to meet the Festival’s aims in
relation to the market, previous relevant event management or associated experience, evidence of notfor-profit status and financial capacity.
