Gold for Carpet Concept – the woven carpet collection Hem was
honored with the iF gold award 2015

Honor for Hem: The woven carpet collection, designed by Ben van Berkel/UNStudio was honored
with the iF Design Award 2015 in gold. The international judges voted the Carpet Concept collection as one of the top products. Only a few submissions received the iF gold award.

With the gold-label, Carpet Concept received an especially well known award. For more than
60 years, the iF Design Award is an international recognized trademark for outstanding design.
More than 50 well known design experts from all over the world identified the winners. From
more than thousand premium facilities only 75 received the gold award.
At the award ceremony on February 27th, at the BMW world in Munich, the special design of
Hem was brought out. „The Hem carpet captivates with its fine irregular color grid, with great
color combinations and with excellent workmanship“, the jury said. „What makes Hem stand out
is the visual effect of this sophisticated grid that, depending on perspective and distance, constantly creates different pictures and graphic structures: fascinating.“

Living Landscapes – the woven carpet collection Hem
When designing the Hem collection, Ben van Berkel/UNStudio drew their inspirations from the
lively structures of natural and urban landscapes. The collection is based on non-directional patterns of coloured dots, which appear to result in ever new graphical images and are perceived in
various ways when viewed from different angles and distances. Numerous shades serve as a basis
for the composition and highlighting of 34 colour variations. With this wide variety, the pixel-like
patterns invite to create various combinations – to design one’s own unique landscapes. On top
of this, Hem combines the playful lightness of varying patterns with an extremely hard-wearing
and durable woven carpet. The pleasant feel and high quality of the 2-frame woven material adds
a lively as well as homely feel to building interiors such as offices and hotels or private homes.
