Bethune College Junior Fellows/Graduate Peer Mentors Dear SC, LE and KAHS graduate students: Tel 416.736.5164 Fax 416.736.5892 Norman Bethune College Bethune College is recruiting Junior Fellows/Graduate Peer Mentors (JFs/GPMs). JFs/GPMs are graduate students/alumni in the Faculty of Science (SC), Lassonde School of Engineering (LE) and School of Kinesiology and Health Science (KAHS) who advise and guide upper-level undergraduate students in their latter years of study, and help them identify and attain their career/graduate goals. Currently GPMs are needed in the following areas of study: Psychology, Mathematics, Chemistry, and Physics, although graduate students/alumni from other fields (Biology, Kinesiology, Astronomy, STS, and other SC, LE, and KAHS students) are also encouraged to apply. BETHUNE COLLEGE 4700 Keele St. Toronto ON Canada M3J 1P3 JFs/GPMs responsibilities and details: 1. Attend Basic Peer Leadership Training on Saturday, May 30, 2015 from 9:00am-5:00pm. Failure to attend the training session for any reason will disqualify the candidate. (Please note: SOS PL alumni who have already attended a BPL Training in the last 3 years are exempt). 2. JFs/GPMs will be responsible for keeping in touch with their undergraduate mentees on a regular basis to address any concerns they may have throughout the year. This will demand about ~1 hour per week, on average. 3. Attend at least one additional leadership skills training/personal development session. For instance: • safeTALK, Mental Health 101, etc.: http://mhw.info.yorku.ca/training/ • Resources at York and Bethune College, Research Opportunities at York, Communication Skills, etc.: http://bethune.yorku.ca/events/ 4. Attend SOS Open House in Fall 2015 or Winter 2016. 5. Attend and/or assist in planning at least one JF/GPM seminar throughout the year. 6. Assist in recruiting JFs/GPMs in the subsequent semester/year. 7. JFs/GPMs will be invited to participate in other SOS events throughout the 2015-2016 school year. Participation would be voluntary and in addition to (not a replacement for) their regular responsibilities described above.
