The British Frozen Food Federation (BFFF) is the trade association
that represents the frozen food industry in the UK.
Its members cover the complete supply chain and include importers,
brokers, producers, wholesalers, retailers and Associates – those
companies who provide services to the industry.
BFFF have always had a strong presence at IFE and for 2015 we are
continuing to offer our ‘Essentially Frozen’ Guide.
This guide offer BFFF members the opportunity to promote their
products and services initially at IFE and then at key BFFF events
until IFE 2017.

Over 35 years ago Rick Bestwick Ltd was formed. Originally processing wild game,
Rick Bestwick Ltd became the largest wild game processors in the UK supplying to major

As a business we needed cold storage and it was very quickly realised that there was
a definite shortage of coldstore operators who actually understood and appreciated the
needs of the food manufacturers especially the relationship between themselves and the

Through investment and acquisition, by 2010 the company's coldstore facilities
exceeded 30,000 pallet spaces and along with customer demand for added value
services, our transport operation had grown substantially. This was also the year that the
Wild Game Operation was sold which enabled greater focus on our coldstore and
distribution operations.
In 2013 Kevin Hancock, formerly Commercial Director with 16 years' service to the
company, acquired the shares of Rick and Pam Bestwick along with investors Magnavale
Ltd. Kevin Hancock became Managing Director of Rick Bestwick Ltd and along with
further investment and acquisitions raised the coldstore profile to 62,000 pallet spaces at
Holmewood and a further 55,000 pallet spaces at Scunthorpe offering multi temperature
chambers and various added value services.

Big Fish Brand offers award winning salmon fillets in a range of different
marinades as well as plain and organic salmon, three different types of fish cakes and
salmon pearls in a crunchy lemon and pepper coating. All products are in a freezer to
table format.

In January 2014 the Big Fish Brand was developed offering excellent quality and
innovative salmon products made from responsibly sourced Atlantic salmon and
prepared with pride by JCS Fish in Grimsby
Big Fish combines experience and traditional skills with modern technology to bring
you the very best and most delicious salmon products. Fish is recommended as part
of a nutritionally balanced diet and the freezing process seals in the freshness,
ensures excellent quality and allows year round availability. As salmon is an oily fish it
is just as tasty from frozen as fresh.
Big Fish is a distinctive and easily recognised brand which offers strength and a
point of difference in the market. By working closely with our customers we have
developed a brand which appeals to their market offering frozen fish in a freezer to
table format.
We felt that there was a gap in the market for frozen fish, particularly in the
independent outlets and these products allow our clients to stock a fish product in
vacuum packed packaging.
These can either be cooked from frozen or defrosted at room temperature for 4 – 6
hours or overnight in a refrigerator.
They can be poached, oven baked or microwaved.

This process starts with the New Product Development Team. They create the
dishes with the aid of market research to determine current trends. Our Product
Champions then work in a hands-on role throughout the factory training teams in new
product preparation and make-up to ensure that our dishes not only taste good but
also look authentic to their country of origin.
Once our dishes have the all important seal of approval we then move into
production. Our continual investing in state of the art machinery enables us to
combine large-scale production with traditional cooking methods and produce dishes
with a hand made appearance. Naturally our highly skilled and dedicated staff works
to ensure that all products meet stringent quality guidelines.
