BIG SOFTIE - SUPER CHUNKY LADIES BEANIE HAT Copyright © Wendy Poole 2011 A really quick hat to make, using super-chunky weight wool. The only skills needed to make this apart from basic stitches are , treble 2 together and double crochet 2 together. Materials - 9mm hook and 2 x 50gram balls of Sirdar Big Softie wool. Hat Fitting Note - When making this hat it is very important that the foundation chain fits around your head, otherwise the hat won't fit. If the chain is too short, re-make it working your stitches more loosely. -------Use a stitch marker where indicated to show you where to join the rounds. This may simply be a short length of yarn in a different colour-----Make 37 chain Loosely, turn. 1st Row - 1 double crochet in 2nd chain from hook, place a marker in this stitch. Double crochet to the end, (total 36 stitches). Now join in a round to the to the first stitch (where you put the marker), being careful not to twist the 1st row when joining. 2nd, 3rd and 4th Row - 1 chain, 1 double crochet in next stitch, (place marker in this last stitch). Double crochet 35 times, ( total 36 stitches). Slip stitch to the 1st stitch of the round, where you placed the marker. 5th Row - 3 chain, place marker in the 3rd chain, (this counts as 1 stitch). 1 treble into same stitch, * 2 treble, then 2 treble both into next stitch* repeat to end, (total 50 stitches), slip stitch to 3rd chain (where marker is) to join the round. 6th and 7th Row - 3 chain, place marker in the 3rd chain, (this counts as 1 stitch). 1 Treble into next stitch, 48 double crochet, (total 50 stitches), slip stitch to 3rd chain (where marker is) to join the round. 8th Row - 2 chain then 1 treble into same stitch, place marker in the top of the treble. *Treble 1 into the next stitch, then treble 2 together* repeat to end (total 34 stitches). Slip stitch into the treble at the beginning of the round (where the marker is) to join the round. 9th Row - Same as the 8th row, (23 stitches). 10th Row - 2 chain, then 1 treble into next stitch (place marker in the top of the treble). *treble 2 together, to the end (total 12 stitches). Join with a slip stitch to the treble (where the marker is) to join the round. 11th Row - 1 chain, then 1 double crochet into next stitch (place marker in the top of the double crochet). *double crochet 2 together, to the end (total 6 stitches). Join with a slip stitch to the double crochet (where the marker is) to join the round. 12th Row - Double crochet 2 together, 3 times, closing up any gap. Fasten off.
