HOW TO SPEND TIME IN LONDON?
4.1.
The city is full of exceptional British-made souvenirs and
goods found only in England. You will find them everywhere
– at the historic markets, huge department stores, in busy
shopping streets, and local corner shops. There is a wide range
of goods to choose from, including fine teas, luxury chocolates
and cups, vases, towels or fluffy toys – all decorated with Union
Jacks and London’s famous landmarks.
4.2.
Are you bored with shopping and buying souvenirs? So stop
for a moment and look around. Try to find the traces of the
Roman Empire, then jump to the first millennium at the Tower
of London. Visit the Medieval era at Westminster Abbey, the
Elizabethan at the Globe Theater and the neo-Baroque at the
beautiful St. Paul’s Cathedral. Enjoy the history of the city that
goes back to AD 50.
4.3.
What about taking a peaceful walk in one of the city’s royal
parks? Interestingly, they used to be royal hunting areas that
have been transformed into public parks with forests, rolling
hills and marshland. You do not need to travel far to find them
– there are parks in every corner of the city, from huge to intimate,
each with its own special character to explore.

ONLINE LEARNING
If online classes are the future of education, I fear for the next
generation of students. For the past four years, I’ve taken nearly
15 college and high school courses online. Some of them have
been informative, but I can’t say I’ve learned much of anything
from them.
I passed Spanish on virtual school with an A, but I learned
more about the language from watching Dora the Explorer than
I did from taking that class. I took Greek and Roman history
this summer hoping to learn more about the two cultures, but
I know nothing about the societies apart from that they resided
in Greece and Rome.
So if schools with online education programs want students
to learn effectively from them, there are some issues they have
to examine and deal with immediately.

HATE TAKING THE BUS TO SCHOOL? TRY SWIMMING!
It’s a long, wet journey to school for 61 teenagers in western
India. If they want to learn, they have no choice but to swim.
The boys and girls carry books, papers and changes of clothing
in plastic bags as they cross the Heran River. Parents or other
adults sometimes accompany them on the 50-foot swim. Then
they walk up to 3 miles to their high school in Gujara. The students
say the swim is worth it for an education that can help lift them
out of poverty. In India at least 700 million people live on less
than $1.25 a day. The school is trying to help them by forgiving
late arrivals and if the weather is bad, students are sent home
early.
