OPENING NIGHT ONE WEEK AWAY, PROMOTIONS APLENTY FOR HOMESTAND
Fireworks, concerts and magnetic schedule giveaways all on-tap for opening week
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Opening Night is now just one week away as Downtown Birmingham welcomes
America’s Pastime back for the 2015 season. The Barons are set to open Thursday, April 9 at 7:05 p.m. as
the Mobile BayBears come to town for a five-game series, and a jam-packed promotional schedule begins with
the first pitch.
“I can’t express how excited we are that the season is almost here and baseball is back,” Barons General
Manager Jonathan Nelson said. “We have a lot of fun promotions and events planned for this opening week,
and we hope the fans are excited as we are to finally welcome baseball back to Regions Field.”
Magnetic schedules will be given away throughout the first three games, and Thursday marks the first Thirsty
Thursday of the year with all 16 ounce beverages available for just $2. It also kicks off the first Thursday Night
Concert Series act of the season, and Jake the Diamond Dog makes appearances throughout the game as the
team’s bat “retriever.”
Friday’s game, also a 7:05 p.m. start, features a pregame concert from the Tuscaloosa band The Doctors and
the Lawyers, and postgame Friday Night Fireworks.
Saturday is a 6:30 p.m. first pitch with an appearance from “America’s Ballpark Prankster” BirdZerk! getting
rowdy and outrageous on the field. Saturday is also Faith Night as church groups of 10 or more receive $2 off
regular priced tickets, and All-South Appliance will be giving away a grill to one lucky fan.
The Barons’ Salute to Armed Forces returns Sunday at 3 p.m. Present a Military ID at the ticket office and
receive $2 off all regular priced tickets, and the Barons will again wear military camo jerseys in recognition of
those who are currently serving or have served in the armed forces. Children attending the game also have
the chance to participate in a youth clinic from 1 – 2 p.m. before the game. Participants will receive instruction
on the field from the Barons baseball team.
Monday wraps up the first week of baseball at Regions Field with an 11:30 a.m. Businessman Special start. It
is a YP Monday and also a School Day as local classes take a field trip to the ballpark.
