ALTSO SUCCESS STORY
Faiza
is a pretty little girl of 3 years. She lives in
Lahore and has four sisters and 2 brothers. Her father is
a Rickshaw driver and earns about Rs. 15,000/- per
month ($ 150 p.m.). When she was 2 years old, fate
dealt her a cruel blow when she contracted polio. The
family was devastated. With both of her legs affected
by Polio Paralysis, their beautiful, healthy baby could no
longer stand, let alone walk. Since the parents were too
poor to afford to pay for the orthotic devices needed for
their daughter, they brought her to PSRD where she was
fitted with bilateral KAFO and provided gait training.
Now she can stand and walk, play with her friends. She
is very happy and her parents are also very happy.

checked and weighed. On the advice of the doctor, I
had my delivery at the hospital. By the Grace of God I
now have a beautiful, healthy baby. I am so grateful to
the doctor, PSRD and the donor.

BURKI SUCCESS STORY
My name is Shakila. I am 25 years old and I live in Burka
Kalan. My husband, Abdur Razzaq, who is also my
cousin, is a labourer and earns Rs. 8000 p.m. I was
married at the age of 18 years and had no idea of how to
raise a child. My first child was delivered at home and
died at birth due to lack of oxygen. When I started
expecting again, a woman from my neighbourhood
informed me that a health clinic had opened in Kim Gul
and the lady doctor there was very good. I went with
my neighbour to the clinic where the lady doctor
checked me and advised me to have a blood test and an
ultra sound at the Burki Hospital. I returned to the clinic
a week later with my reports and the doctor gave me
some vitamins and supplements. Every month I was
|INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PERSONS WITH
DISABILITIES|
The observance of International Day of Persons with
Disabilities provides an opportunity to promote
awareness of issues relating to disability and throws
light on the challenges and successes of persons with
disabilities. The theme of this year's commemoration,
“Sustainable Development: The promise of
technology” is timely as it marks the conclusion of the
period of the Millennium Development goals (MDGs) in
2015 and the launch of a new development framework
of sustainable development goals (SDGs). Technology
is an increasingly important element in all spheres of
life and can be an invaluable tool to help persons with
disabilities achieve a full and equal participation in
society.
PSRD observed the International Day of Persons with
Disabilities on 2nd December with a colourful function
presented by the children of the PSRD High School.
The event was attended by special children, their
parents, members of PSRD Executive Committee and
other guests.
Mr. Kamran Lashari, Director General , Walled City
Lahore, was the Chief Guest on the occasion.
Since employment and economic independence is a
key issue for PWDs the event was also an opportunity to
highlight the important work being done by the
Vocational Rehabilitation unit of PSRD, in particular the
micro-credit program which is providing interest free
loans to people with disabilities.
Punjab Govt. also observed the International Day of
Persons with Disabilities on 3rd December 2014 at
Alhamra Art Centre, Lahore. Mrs. Zakia Shahnawaz,
Minister for Population Welfare was the Chief Guest.

|Success Story of Physiotherapy Centre|
A 22 year old male patient named Kamran came to our
PT centre with bent left knee and bent left hip. He was
not able to extend his leg since the last 5 months after a
trauma because of which he felt difficulty in walking
and was facing problems in his daily living activities. He
was very disappointed with his condition after visiting
and consulting eight different hospitals. We gave him
proper and careful treatment at our level best, for two
months. Now, his condition is significantly improved.
His gait is also much better and he can perform his daily
activities with ease.
We thank all our donors for
their generous support

Prof Dr. Aftab Ahmad
(20th October, 2014)
I am immensely pleased to visit and participate in
World Osteoporosis Day function. PSRD is doing a great
job in the rehabilitation of the physically disabled. It has
expanded its services many times and I used to work
here as the 1st Orthopaedic Surgeon. May Allah bless
you all.
PSRD strongly condemns the
cowardly attack on the Army
Public School, Peshawar in
December , 2014 in which over
150 innocent children and

extends its heartfelt
condolences to the bereaved
families.
We stand together against violence
