classes that will be offered. Please feel free to

Class sessions will meet for 2½ days: Friday,
March 14th, Saturday, March 15th and Sunday
morning, March 16th.
Along with the Class Number and Title, each description includes:

o All levels – everyone will enjoy this class from the beginner with very little prior
knowledge of quiltmaking techniques to the very experienced quiltmakers
o Confident Beginner – some experience in rotary cutting and knowledge of ¼” seam
allowance.
o Intermediate – prior knowledge and experience in piecing and appliqué who is now
reaching for new challenges.

Class Sessions Offered: 101 Reversible Quilts Janet Andrews All levels MACHINE; Piecing, Quilting Discover an unexpected “two‐for‐one” in this quilt! Create an exciting design on the front side and a completely different color combination on the back side. Construction is quick and easy because this project is quilted at the same time it is pieced. Segments are then joined with simple sashing strips. Also learn to make a reversible binding. Double your quilting fun with Reversible Quilts. Book required; Reversible Quilts: Two at a Time by Sharon Pederson; available from your local quilt shop or at amazon.com 102 Victorian Table Runner Shirlee Berry Intermediate MACHINE; Piecing HAND; Applique This is a fun and easy‐to‐piece table runner with a Victorian flair. While there is no curved piecing in this fabulous runner, a curved effect is achieved by inserting and very simply appliqueing 3‐dimensional units which then provide that extra visual punch! The finished runner measures 28” X 41” and is a great addition to any table. Supply List and pre‐class cutting instructions will be sent to each student. Pattern fee: $4. 103 View from my Log Cabin Peg Bingham Confident Beginner MACHINE; Piecing Inspired by a 1987 quilt in the National Quilt Museum by Hallie O’Kelley ”Zinnias in the Window of My Log Cabin”, Peg introduces a great new approach to Attic Windows. We will build visual interest and fun around a focus fabric by accenting it with color‐graduation logs. Depth and dimensionality will be the key to a beautiful quilt! Pattern fee: $10. Page 2 of 7
104 Glory‐Stars Sandi Blackwell All levels MACHINE; Piecing Create this patriotic quilt design utilizing the Square‐
agonals® technique of creating an on‐point quilt with ease. The “Glory Stars” quilt goes together easily. You will have the opportunity to sharpen your sewing skills and learn sewing tips. Sandi will be giving lessons on how to work with different border treatments. Square‐
agonals® is Sandi’s simple, creative technique for creating an on‐point quilt without cutting any setting or corner triangles, doing any math calculation, or sewing in diagonal rows. Kit Fee ‐ $10; includes pattern and instructions, Square‐agonals® Guide and Arrow Tapes. 105 “Think Spring” – Welcome to My Studio Cindy Casciato Confident Beginner MACHINE; Piecing Join in for a sit and sew class that allows you to set the pace. You can choose to work on the Mystery Studio Project “Think Spring” or finish some projects you already have underway. Cindy is always available to help with any project you bring along. Instruction time will include the studio project and demos for easy ways to create different patchwork units. One of the highlights of this classroom is the Show ‘n Share of the latest quilting notions, so please bring your best tip or notion along to share. Studio Project: The “Take Five Think Spring” quilt will teach you several techniques, such as Fast Flying Geese, Three Part Triangle Squares, Half‐Squares from a strip, Triangles in a Corner Block, and folded inset borders as we progress through the mystery. All the pre‐class cutting directions are so easy. You only need to cut strips from each of the five fabrics and you can spend the rest of your time sewing in the studio. “Take Five Think Spring” Pattern fee: $9. 106 Creating Shadows Tresha Cottrill All Levels MACHINE; Piecing & Appliqué This technique creates an illusion of depth in your quilt. By creating the appearance of shadows on the background the appliques appear to float above the surface of the quilt. Students will learn a bleaching technique to create the shadows on the background fabric and then how to place the appliques to create the illusion of floating. The pattern will contain a variety of applique templates to choose from or students may use their own provided they are compatible with this technique. Pattern fee: $8. Page 3 of 7
107 Whirligigs! Lorraine Covington Intermediate MACHINE; Piecing Enjoy a relaxing time creating this cheerful and fun quilt! Simple block piecing sets these whirligigs in motion and it is constructed using no triangles, including the beautiful sawtooth border! This is the perfect size for a small throw, wall hanging, picnic blanket or tablecloth. You can feel the breeze of the lovely summer’s day! Get a jump on your summer fun with this project! Pattern fee: $10. 108 Circular Patchwork Lou Ann Elliott Confident Beginner MACHINE; Piecing Circular Patchwork looks like a cousin of Orange Peel, Robbing Peter to Pay Paul or Cathedral Window. It is made totally on the sewing machine and results in a strong, washable quilt. It is a great pattern for using scraps, stored fabrics, or for fabric exchanges. Circular Patchwork is made of three layers: front, back and filling. The front fabric forms the window, which is framed when the back fabric is folded to the front side of the quilt. The filling is not seen, but gives substance to the quilt. This is a fast and easy pattern, so join me for a day of fun! Class fee: $20 for template set and pattern; available at www.ardcotemplates.com/cps.shtml. 109 Round Robin Camp‐Style Tone Haugen‐Cogburn Intermediate MACHINE; Piecing & Appliqué Most of us have exchanged blocks with each other, but often these blocks are left unfinished and never assembled into a quilt. At Spring Training Camp we will be exchanging quilting elements to make different type of “Round Robbin” quilt. You will make and bring a large block to the camp where you decide the color scheme. Now your fellow campers/quilters will add borders to your block following some loose guidelines set up by Tone. Naturally, time will not allow for us to work on big pieces, but it will a lot of fun to see what everyone comes up with. You should be able to bring home a small wall hanging made by your friends just for you. All quilts will be “one‐of‐a‐kind” originals. Pattern fee: $6. Page 4 of 7
110 Scrap Control! Sandy Heminger All Levels MACHINE; Piecing Are your beautiful scraps taking over your drawers, tubs, closets, car trunk and just about every available space, driving you and your family crazy? Do you cut your left‐
overs into squares, pile them into storage containers and boxes, only to find you have to cut them again, just to use them for your next scrap project? Join us for a look at a method of getting everything working for you, right from the start. You will love how simple and easy this whole “philosophy” really is. It will have you churning out scrap quilts right away. Pattern fee: $10. Sandy will also have templates to make this class even easier! 111 “Fill in the Blanks” Sue Jones All Levels HAND or MACHINE; Piecing “Fill in the Blanks” with Panels, Embroidery Designs, T‐
shirts, Appliqué, Photos on fabric, Redwork, and even Orphan Blocks – you pick! This pattern was designed for an easy way to set a variety of different types of blocks you may have been collecting and haven’t decided how to use them in a quilt. You get to decide what goes in the twelve “Blanks”. The Quilt finishes 50” x 68” and the “Blanks” are 10½” unfinished. Pattern fee: $12. 112 Winding Ways; aka Wheels of Mystery Fran Kordek Intermediate MACHINE; Piecing Yes, you can sew curves! This class will help you handle those gently curved pieced seams of the traditional “Winding Ways” pattern. The class project will focus on the 2‐fabric layout (choice of table runner or small wall hanging), or you may use a consistent background with a variety of scraps. Good piecing skills are required as this project may challenge a beginner. But the challenge can be overcome with Fran’s help on this lovely quilt! Template Set Fee: $18. Page 5 of 7
113 Scrappy Kaleidoscope Quilt – the Smart Way Confident Beginner Doreen Kuster MACHINE; Piecing Has the kaleidoscope quilt design frustrated you trying to get all the points to come together perfectly in the center? Or, have you wanted to try the pattern but it looks too hard? Then the Scrappy Kaleidoscope Quilt – the Smart Way is for you! Starting with a basic pinwheel block made of half‐square triangles, you can avoid sewing and cutting narrow triangles. Then use the template to cut out the finished Kaleidoscope block. This is a great quilt to use up some of your stash. The quilt finishes 86” X 102”. Template and Pattern Cost: $32. 114 Big Star Blocks Debby Lee Confident Beginner MACHINE; Piecing Big Blocks = instant gratification. Each block measures a fabulous 25 inches. Four blocks with borders makes a 70” x 70” quilt. Both the beginner and experienced piecer will have fun learning a new “X” technique to making half square triangles. We will be using layer cakes or 10” cut squares (2 squares of dark, 2 squares of light, plus 3 squares of background fabric per STAR block) . Your top will be finished by the end if class! Instant gratification! Love it. Pattern fee: $10. 115 Summer Solstice Beth Safick Confident Beginner MACHINE; Paper Piecing If you've wanted to learn the basics of foundation paper piecing, the Summer Solstice quilt is the perfect pattern. Let Beth show you how Judy Niemeyer's techniques take the guesswork and frustration out of paper piecing. Judy has everything that you need printed for you, no need to copy anything. This stunning quilt consists of Lone Star units, New York Beauties and borders. It's that easy! 116 Cinnamon Stitches “Tasseled Tulip” Block Needle‐turn Appliqué Cathy Sanderson All Levels HAND; Appliqué Learn to do needle‐turn applique by doing this large 20” X 20” block from the “Cinnamon Stitches” BOM Quilt by Piece O’ Cake. Cathy will teach a few “tricks and tips” along the way. Note: if you enjoy the block made in class, you may download the rest of the blocks for $4 each from www.pieceocake.com. 117 Optical Illusions Erin Underwood Intermediate MACHINE; Piecing Mind‐Bending fun! No curved piecing either! The construction technique is simplified with the Creative Grids 15‐Degree Triangle Ruler. The quilt is strip pieced then cross cut into wedges. Use two colors or go scrappy – either way you will amaze your friends with this fabulous quilt and only you will know the how easily it all came together! Class fee: $20 for the Creative Grids 15‐
degree Triangle Ruler and class pattern 118 Candy Land Mary Jo Yackley Confident Beginner MACHINE; Piecing Candy Land is a great class for confident beginners and challenging enough for experienced quilters. A variety of layouts will be presented in class. This block is quick to make and large to boot! The lap size quilt is a generous 64” x 78”. The secret to its success is strong contrast in the fabric used for the small squares. Mary Jo has lots of tips and tricks to share on this project. You will learn more than you bargained for! This quilt may become your favorite “go to” pattern since the single block can be made into so many different looks. Pattern Fee ‐ $8; available from teacher at the workshop. Page 7 of 7
