Support Girl Scouts Heart of New Jersey!
One hundred percent — every penny of your donation to the Annual Family Campaign (AFC) directly supports our
local Girl Scout mission.
The AFC bridges the gap between Council income and the cost of providing a strong Girl Scout program in our
communities, which is more than $257 annually per girl. The AFC, along with other revenue streams including product
sales, programs, camp corporate and foundation support and the Council Service Fee, provides the combined resources
needed to serve each girl.
Your financial commitment to the AFC allows us to:
• Support the Girl Scout Leadership Experience by engaging girls in discovering themselves, connecting with other and taking action to make the world a better place.
• Recruit and retain enthusiastic volunteers to engage and mentor girls
• Provide age-appropriate, developmental materials and resources to allow volunteers to inspire
girls and deliver the Girl Scout Leadership Experience
• Give girls access to state of the art facilities, skilled professionals and role models in a variety of fields, cutting edge technology, and exciting travel opportunities
• Serve girls equally by providing financial assistance to those in need
With your support, we can continue to provide programming to girls in the communities we serve to help make the most
of this exciting time in their lives! Please send your tax-deductible contribution to Girl Scouts Heart of New
Jersey or donate online at http://bit.ly/gshnjdonate.
Program Index
This Program Index works as a table of contents that will help you to identify each program that is being offered by Girl Scouts Heart
of New Jersey for the Fall/Winter 2012-2013 Membership Year.
This year our programs are arranged by the following categories: Arts & Culture, Awards, Financial Literacy, Hearts of Service, Health
and Fitness, Outdoor Activities, Multiple Category, Overnights and S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math). We have also
developed a system similar to nutrition labels - each program description tells you generally what is “inside” the program you're
choosing by listing its “parts,” such as a description, Program Level (D for Daisy, B for Brownie, J for Junior, C for Cadette, S for Senior
and A for Ambassador), the Journey Skill involved, the location, day, time, and any other relevant information you may need. Please
visit our website, www.gshnj.org, for Program Registration instructions, to download a registration form and access to our program
calendar.
Adult Policy: Some programs only have enough space for the number of adults as required by our Safety Activity Checkpoint Ratios
Only. This is reflected as “Safety Activity Checkpoint Ratios Only” Others have room for more adults. This is reflected as “All Adults

This symbol (to the right of program titles) indicates Cookie Rewards can be applied to pay for this Council-sponsored activity.
Attention Juliettes!
Girls who want to be members of GSHNJ, but choose not to participate in troop or group activities, can register as an individual
member, also known as a “Juliette.” This gives you the opportunity to participate in all Council-sponsored activities, including Product
Programs! See page 18 for more details.
Program Refund and Credit Policy
Once a troop or individual registers for a GSHNJ run program, a refund will be issued only if one of the two conditions below exists:
1. The troop or individual cancels the registration prior to or by end of business in the last day of the two (2) week registration
deadline before the program is scheduled to run. No refunds will be issued after the two-week deadline. ** All programs, unless
specified, have a registration deadline of 2 weeks prior to the deadline date.
2. Girl Scouts Heart of New Jersey reserves the right to cancel events due to insufficient registration, inclement weather or any other
extenuating circumstance. Only those participants who have registered will be notified of cancellations and changes. Refunds will be
issued in full for events which are cancelled by Council. Specific information regarding weather cancellations will be included in your
confirmation letter.
Should you be unable to attend an event for which you have signed up, a written request for refund (email or mail) must be received
by the registration deadline. Refunds will be given minus 10% of the original per girl or per adult fee to cover administrative costs
(e.g., if the per girl fee was $20, a $2 fee per girl will be assessed). Please allow 4 weeks for processing.
If a refund is issued, it will be made in the same manner as payment received. Cash will be refunded by check. There will be no
program credits issued.
Programs/events conducted by other institutions have their own cancellation policies that GSHNJ cannot override. Refunds will be
issued according to that institution’s policies.
Programs for which GSHNJ has hired outside facilitators and/or transportation companies (this includes all Broadway show trips) are
non-refundable.

Program FAQs
Inclement Weather
Troops should expect programs to run as scheduled, rain or shine. In the case of snow or other inclement
weather, the Council will determine if it is necessary to cancel a program. The cancellation information will
be published the morning of the program on the home page of our website at www.gshnj.org and a recorded
message will be added to our automated phone greeting at 908-518-4400 no later than 7:30AM.
Adult Chaperones
All Girl Scouting programs require adult chaperones, and troops are expected to adhere to the appropriate
adult to child ratios, as outlined by GSUSA. If the troop leader is unable to accompany the girls, then
registered parents or volunteers can assume the adult chaperone role.
Health History, Permission Forms and Program Rosters: Troop leaders and/or registered adult
chaperones are required to have in their possession at all program events, a copy of the Health History and
Permission Forms for each girl as well as the Program Roster for any program. Do not mail the Health
History or Permission forms when registering for a program. These forms are for use by the leader in case of
an emergency.
Miscellaneous Program Information
Dropping Off Girls for Events
Under no circumstances should the girls be left unattended or unsupervised at a program. If you are not
planning to stay for the program, be sure to stay with the girl(s) until the adult listed on the Program
Registration form is present.
Emergencies
If you are at an event/program and an emergency arises, please follow the procedures listed on the
emergency card provided by Council.
Hearts of Service
This program was developed as a way for girls to keep track and be recognized for their service hours. At
Council we track all hours from girls who participate as our funders love to know how we contribute to our
communities. Currently, our Council donates over 300,000 hours of Community Service a year – talk about
making the world a better place! For more information, contact Sue DeCarlo via email at: [email protected]
Juliettes/Individuals
Juliettes and girls attending programs as individuals must be accompanied by an adult over 18 who must
remain on-site for the duration of the program.
