APPOINTMENT OF SECTION MANAGER

2015 COMMONWEALTH YOUTH GAMES

The Board of Boxing Australia Limited (BAL) is seeking applications for the position of Section
Manager of the Australian Boxing Team for the 2015 Commonwealth Youth Games to be held in
Apia, Samoa, from 5-12 September, 2015. Applications for appointment to this position close at 5pm
(AEST), Friday, 24 April, 2015.
Recommendation to the Australian Commonwealth Games Association (ACGA) of the appointment
of the Section Manager of the Australian Boxing Team for the 2015 Commonwealth Youth Games is
a major decision for Boxing Australia Limited. This is a key leadership role to be undertaken on
behalf of Boxing Australia Limited and the successful applicant will have a significant impact on the
performance of our boxers at these Games.
During the 2015 Commonwealth Youth Games the Section Manager will represent our sport at all
Australian Team meetings and must effectively resolve all issues that impact on the overall
performance and management of the Australian Boxing Team. A major challenge will be the capacity
to make decisions that ensure all arrangements for the Australian Boxing Team are thoroughly
organised.
Additionally, the Section Manager will represent BAL from their appointment in May, 2015, in regard
to matters relating to the preparation of the Australian Boxing Team for the 2015 Commonwealth
Youth Games, and it is important they have the ability to be available to do so.
Boxing Australia Limited will be judged by the Australian sporting community and the Australian
Commonwealth Games Association by the effective management of the Australian Boxing Team not
only during the Games but also in the lead up year and immediate post Games periods. Therefore,
BAL needs to recommend the appointment of a Section Manager who has strong leadership
qualities. In particular, it is essential the person recommended to be appointed has the capacity
during the Commonwealth Youth Games period itself to make decisions decisively in what is always
a very challenging competitive environment.

SELECTION CRITERIA
 A proven track record to manage and lead a team to achieve goals plus a demonstrated
capacity to focus strategically and exercise judgement at a major international boxing
competition.
 Demonstrated capacity to make decisions decisively while effectively resolving any conflict
within a team environment.
 High level of personal integrity and demonstrated commitment to the aims and objectives of
BAL.
 Demonstrated knowledge of the BAL program objectives.
 Excellent communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills including a capacity to consult
effectively with key stake holders.
 Demonstrated experience as either a boxer or BAL boxing official.
 Demonstrated technical knowledge of AIBA competition rules plus a qualification as a
BAL/AIBA Accredited Official.
 A demonstrated understanding of the AIBA electronic scoring system and the conduct of the
competition draw operating at major international tournaments conducted in accordance
with AIBA rules.
 Strong organisation skills that include implementing travel arrangements and preparation of
the daily program of activities during the Games.
 Able to address athletes and coaches with authority, confidence and sensitivity.
 Effective implementation of the BAL agreed codes of behaviour of athletes, coaches and
support staff.
 Available to be with the Australian Boxing Team in preparation for the 2015 Commonwealth
Youth Games.
 Available as required to represent BAL in matters related to the 2015 Commonwealth Youth
Games
 It is desirable for the applicant to have an AIBA Star Coach Certification Level so they can
assist in cornering at the 2015 Commonwealth Youth Games with the Head Coach.
